Renault-Nissan Alliance is all set to invest a total of 5300 crore in the Indian market. The investment will go into development of six new products including two electric vehicles, which will be launched in the country in the next few years. Adding to it, the money will be used to upgrade their Chennai based production facility.
In fact, the Alliance has already invested about 70-80 per cent of the total committed investments. The French automaker Renault is currently selling three models - Kwid hatchback, Kiger crossover and the Triber multi-utility vehicle in India. All three are manufactured at Renault-Nissan alliance's facility at Oragadam.
The exact details about the products to be launched by the Alliance are yet to be revealed. It is expected that Renault will launch the third-generation Duster mid-sized SUV in the country in 2025. Similarly, Nissan will have its own version of the SUV in the later half of 2025. The new model will be based on the heavily modified CMF-B modular architecture, which will also underpin the brand's future 3-row SUV in the country.
Not just the new Duster, Renault will also launch a new 7-seater SUV which will be based on the Dacia Bigster concept. It will use the Duster's CMF-B platform, which will be modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase model. The SUV is likely to be offered in six and 7-seat layout and will rival the likes of the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector Plus.
It is expected that Renault will introduce an all-new entry-level electric hatchback in the country. Few media reports reveal that the French automaker could introduce a new compact electric SUV, which will be bigger than 4 meter in length. The new electric SUV will rival the likes of the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and the Maruti Suzuki eVX. Nissan will also have its own version of the electric SUV. Both EVs will be based on the CMF-B EV platform. In fact, the alliance is in talks with the local battery and cell manufacturers to achieve competitive pricing.
Renault-Nissan alliance will aim to achieve a higher level of localisation, and the new models are expected to cost somewhere between Rs 15-20 lakh. The new electric SUVs are likely to feature an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery with a range of over 300km in real conditions.
