Looking to buy your first car? There are multiple options available in the budget category that suit the needs of first time car buyers. Buyers in India are now opting for micro SUVs over the entry-level hatchbacks.
A car should be affordable and comes with low maintenance costs. It should be highly efficient both in the City and on highways. The vehicle should offer a reasonable amount of safety and security for all occupants. A wide spread dealer & service network comes as an added advantage.
The Tata Punch is the best-selling micro SUV in our market. Hyundai has also introduced the Exter micro SUV in the budget SUV segment, which targets the first time car buyers.
The new Hyundai Exter is built on the same platform that underpins the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. It is positioned between the Grand i10 and the Venue in the Hyundai line-up. In this article, we bring you a comprehensive analysis of Hyundai Exter variants, features and fuel efficiency to pick the right model for you.

The Exter micro SUV is powered by a tried & tested 1.2-litre 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 81.80bhp and 113.8Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. The small SUV is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit. In the CNG mode, the powertrain offers 67.72bhp and 95.2Nm of torque. It is only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Hyundai Exter manual variant is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 19.4kmpl. With an AMT gearbox, the Exter returns 19.4kmpl. The Hyundai Exter CNG delivers a certified mileage of 27.1 km/kg.
