Maruti Suzuki Eyes Hybrid Segment in India

Maruti Suzuki is gradually making a significant impression in the hybrid vehicle market, emphasizing its dedication to innovation and eco-friendly transportation. The company is gearing up to unveil two highly anticipated hybrid models, the next-generation Swift and Dzire, aiming to revolutionize compact cars with outstanding fuel efficiency and cutting-edge technology.

In a strategic move, Maruti Suzuki has joined forces with Toyota to bring efficient hybrid cars to Indian consumers, already launching the Grand Vitara and Invicto MPV with a robust hybrid powertrain.

Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce at least three new hybrid models for the Indian market before the end of the next financial year.

Let’s have a look at the upcoming hybrid models from Maruti Suzuki:

Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift

The new-generation Swift has been the talk of town since last year. Now, the company is ready to bring it in mid-to-late-2024 to the Indian car market. In fact, Suzuki Cars has already unveiled the new Swift at the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show in the concept form.

According to the media reports, the new Swift is likely to get a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol unit with strong hybrid technology from Toyota with the capability of delivering fuel efficiency of up to 35 kmpl. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Upon launch, the 2024 Swift will compete against the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS.

Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Another upcoming hybrid model is the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire which is likely to arrive in the market by March 2024. Just like the new Swift, it will also be powered by similar engine options.

The new Dzire might come equipped with a 1.2-litre strong hybrid which will provide a decent balance between power and fuel efficiency. A mild-hybrid engine of 1.2-litre might also come along with this.

The strong hybrid models of the Swift and Dzire will meet the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE II) standards. However, there is no official confirmation.

Last year, Maruti Suzuki launched the Grand Vitara with strong hybrid and mild-hybrid petrol units. The SUV received a positive response from customers due to its fuel efficiency and features. Now, the company is ready to launch a 3-row version of the Grand Vitara by next year. The upcoming Grand Vitara with a 7-seating configuration will also be a hybrid one. It might carry 1.5-litre K-Series petrol and a 1.5-litre TNGA hybrid engine option. The new model will also have some minor updates to differentiate it from its smaller version.

In Conclusion

With the plan to introduce new hybrid models in the Indian market, the company is aligning with its commitment to providing fuel-efficient and technologically advanced vehicles.
