Both the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno are popular hatchback models in India. Offering a unique market proposition, these two cars offer a compelling comparison in terms of appearance, features, performance and pricing. Here is a quick comparison between the two hatchbacks to help you make an informed decision about which one you should buy as your next new car.

In terms of exterior design, both the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno offer completely different designs. While the Swift is known for its sporty and youthful design, the Baleno presents a more refined and sophisticated aesthetic look.
At the front, the 2023 Swift showcases a sporty cross-mesh grille with a bold chrome accent and LED projector headlamps with DRL. It also features auto-foldable ORVMs and precision-cut two-tone alloy wheels. On the other hand, the Baleno hatchback represents its Crafted Futurism Design language characterized by a NEXWave grille with chrome finish and NEXTre' LED DRL. Besides, the car showcases its UV-cut glasses, auto headlamps, fog lamp chrome garnish, and body-coloured ORVMs with turn indicators.
Ultimately, whether you lean towards the Swift's sportiness or the Baleno's elegance, both cars offer visually appealing choices in the hatchback segment.

When it comes to comparing the features of both cars, the Baleno seems to win the game. The Swift is loaded with decent features which include a 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system, twin-pod analogue instrument cluster with coloured 4.2-inch MID, automatic climate control, cruise control, engine push start/stop button with smart key, and more.
However, Baleno provides some more premium features such as a 9.0-inch infotainment system, heads-up display, a 360-degree camera, push start/stop, steering-mounted audio controls, and Arkamys sound system.
For safety concerns, it is obvious that Maruti made Baleno safer than Swift. While Swift has only two airbags, the Baleno hatchback offers up to six airbags. Additionally, the Baleno also gets more features than the Swift like a 360-view camera, and 3-point seat Emergency Locking Retractor seat belts. However, both cars share some of the common safety features which include Electronic Stability Control, High-Speed Alert System, Reverse Parking Sensors, and Brake Assist.

The all-new Swift and the 2023 Baleno offer impressive performances. The Swift is known for its agile and sporty handling, making it a joy to drive through city streets. On the other hand, the Baleno focuses more on comfort and fuel efficiency. It offers a smooth ride, making it an ideal choice for daily commuting and longer journeys.
These two hatchbacks come with a 1.2-litre engine, offered for petrol and CNG fuel types. In fact, both cars offer similar figures for power output and torque. With a petrol engine, Swift and Baleno generate the maximum power output of 89 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. While in CNG mode, the power reduces to 76 bhp and 98 Nm of torque. Additionally, the Baleno and Swift share the same transmission options which include 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes.
The all-new Baleno and 2023 Swift hatchbacks are offered with competitive pricing. The Swift is typically positioned as a slightly more budget-friendly option, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a compact and cost-effective vehicle. On the other hand, the Baleno sits slightly higher in terms of pricing, reflecting its slightly larger size, additional features, and premium positioning.
The Swift is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant while the Baleno's base variant comes with a price tag of Rs 6.61 lakh (ex-showroom). For the top-spec variant of the Swift and Baleno, Maruti has set the pricing as Rs 8.89 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 9.88 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. Customers can choose the model based on their features requirements and budget.
