MG Motor India is bringing a new electric car to the Indian market named MG Comet EV which is a renamed version of the Air EV. The Comet EV will be the cheapest and smallest electric vehicle from the brand. MG is likely to launch this compact EV by April 2023 in India.
The electric hatchback is based on the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform developed in a joint venture between SAIC-GM-Wuling. It is also rumoured that the battery of Comet EV will be sourced from Tata Autocomp and will use Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) cells.
Further, the Comet EV is likely to get the same battery options as the MG Air EV. The first will be a smaller battery pack having a capacity of 17.3 kWh while the other will be the larger pack made up of 26.7 kWh. However, there is no official confirmation on which ones will be finally offered in India. The expected price of MG Comet EV is likely to be under Rs 10 lakh and it will compete against Tata Tiago EV.

Another much-anticipated hatchback is the Tata Altroz CNG which is scheduled to be launched by June 2023 in the country. The model was also showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2023 alongside the Altroz Racer. The premium hatchback is most likely to get a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which in its CNG guise is expected to deliver a maximum power output of 73 bhp with 95 Nm of peak torque. Although we cannot expect any new features to be added to the CNG model, it may come equipped with iRA-Connected Car Technology, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, and more features. Current prices for the Tata Altroz range between Rs 6.45 lakh to Rs 10.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Its CNG variant is likely to carry a premium pricing of about Rs 90,000 to Rs 1 lakh over the corresponding petrol trims.
