Honda Cars has recently introduced the new-gen Amaze sub-4 meter sedan, which is based on the modified Brio's architecture. In order to improve sales, the Japanese brand aims to infuse more investment in making new products for India and global markets. The company plans to add 3 new SUVs in its portfolio in FY26-27.
Honda Cars India has confirmed that it will introduce new SUVs in electric and hybrid powertrains. The company has confirmed that the Elevate based electric SUV will be launched in the country in 2026. It will use the existing Elevate architecture, which will be modified to accommodate an electric powertrain. Moreover, Honda is developing an all-new platform, internally called PF2, to develop new breed of cars for India and global markets.
This is a modular platform, which will be heavily localized to achieve competitive pricing. This platform will be flexible enough to accommodate different body styles and powertrains including ICE, Hybrid and electric. While Honda will start its EV journey using the existing platform, most of its rivals including Maruti, Tata and Mahindra have already introduced EVs based on Born-EV platforms.
It is expected that Honda is developing an all-new 7-seater SUV, which is likely to be the first model based on the new PF2 platform. The project is handled by Honda design and development teams in Japan and Thailand; however, the development project is done with inputs from Honda India. It is believed that India will be one of the key markets for this new 7-seater SUV.
The new Honda 7-seater SUV will be the brand's global SUV and will also go on sale in select international markets including Japan and South Asian nations. The new 7-seater SUV will take on the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and others in the category. It is likely to be offered with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and CVT options. The 7-seater SUV could also receive a 1.5L petrol + strong hybrid engine.
Honda could also introduce an all-new sub-4 meter SUV to take on the likes of the Kia Sonet, Syros, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and others in the category. The new model could use the versatile PF2 platform or the existing City's platform. Honda will also introduce an all-new electric SUV and the next-gen City sedan, both will be based on the PF2 architecture.
