New Hybrid MPVs Coming to India - Hyundai & Kia Strategy Out

Hyundai and Kia to launch new hybrid MPVs in India. Carnival Hybrid arriving in 2026, Carens Hybrid later. Hyundai MPV expected by 2028.

Hyundai and Kia are preparing a new wave of hybrid MPVs for the Indian market. These upcoming models will target family buyers and aim to challenge established options like the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Hycross.

MPV Segment Still Going Strong

Even with SUVs dominating the market, MPVs continue to be popular among Indian buyers.

Their spacious interiors, practicality and comfort make them a preferred choice for large families and long trips.

Currently, the segment is largely dominated by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota.

Hyundai MPV Expected by 2028

Hyundai is finally set to enter the MPV space with a new three-row model.

The upcoming MPV is expected to be based on the platform of the Hyundai Santa Fe and could arrive in India by 2028.

It is likely to sit in the premium MPV segment and directly rival the Innova Hycross.

Kia Carnival Hybrid Launch in 2026

Kia has already confirmed the launch of the Kia Carnival Hybrid in the second half of 2026.

The model is expected to be imported as a CBU and will feature a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor.

This setup is designed to deliver a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency.

Carens Hybrid Also in Pipeline

Kia is also working on a hybrid version of the Kia Carens.

The Carens Hybrid is expected to arrive between 2027 and 2029, with local production likely to help keep pricing competitive.

It could use a 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor, along with locally sourced components.

Strong Focus on Efficiency and Practicality

Both Hyundai and Kia are focusing on hybrid technology to improve fuel efficiency while maintaining performance.

These MPVs are expected to offer better mileage, modern features and spacious cabins, making them ideal for family use.
