Nissan Terrano set to return as a premium hybrid SUV. Expected to deliver over 400 hp and 100 km EV range. India launch likely by 2028 with local assembly.
Nissan is planning to bring back the Nissan Terrano in a completely new form. The next-generation model has been previewed as a concept at Auto China 2026, and it is now being evaluated for the Indian market.
If launched, the new Terrano will move into a more premium SUV segment, taking on rivals like the Toyota Fortuner.
Unlike the earlier Terrano sold in India, which was based on the Renault Duster, the new version will be a full-size body-on-frame SUV.
It will use a ladder-frame platform, similar to global Nissan pickup-based SUVs, making it more capable for off-road driving and tough conditions.
The design will also be more rugged and modern, aimed at lifestyle SUV buyers.

The next-gen Terrano is expected to come with a plug-in hybrid setup. This could combine a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with electric motors for strong performance.
The combined output is expected to be over 400 hp and up to 800 Nm of torque, putting it among the most powerful SUVs in its class.
The battery pack could offer an electric-only range of over 100 km, along with support for fast charging.
The new Terrano could also feature bidirectional charging, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functions.
This means the SUV can power external devices or even charge other electric vehicles, adding to its practicality.
The production version of the next-gen Terrano is expected to debut globally by 2027, with an India launch likely around 2028.
Nissan may bring the SUV as a locally assembled model to keep pricing competitive.
