Next-Gen Nissan GT-R R36 to Get Hybrid Setup, Launch Timeline Revealed

Nissan GT-R R36 coming before 2030 Hybrid powertrain likely for next-gen model All-new platform and major upgrades expected

Nissan has confirmed that the next-generation Nissan GT-R is currently in development. After ending production of the R35 in 2025, the brand is now preparing a completely new model, expected to be called the R36.

Launch Timeline Revealed

The new GT-R is expected to be revealed around 2028.

While an exact launch date is not confirmed yet, reports suggest the R36 could arrive before the end of this decade. This gives Nissan enough time to develop a new platform and updated powertrain.

Hybrid Setup Likely

The biggest change in the upcoming GT-R will be its powertrain.

Nissan is expected to introduce a hybrid setup instead of going fully electric. This means the car will combine a petrol engine with electric assistance to improve both performance and efficiency.

The move also helps the company meet stricter emission rules in global markets.

Engine to Get Major Updates

The current GT-R is powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine, and this engine is likely to continue in the next model.

However, it will be heavily updated to work with hybrid technology. Changes to internal components are expected to improve performance while meeting future emission norms.

Not Going Fully Electric Yet

Nissan had earlier showcased an all-electric vision with the Nissan Hyper Force concept.

But for now, the company seems to be focusing on hybrid technology instead of a full EV. This approach offers a better balance between performance, range, and real-world usability.

Built for Future Regulations

The next GT-R will be designed to meet upcoming global emission standards, including strict norms like Euro 7.

The older R35 platform would not meet these requirements, which is why Nissan is developing an all-new car from the ground up.
