New Sorento to launch on September 4, 2026 It will get a 1.6L turbo petrol with a strong hybrid system Diesel to get a 2.2L turbo unit, paired with an 8-speed AT
The much-anticipated Kia Sorento 7-seater SUV will finally go on sale in the Indian market on September, 4, 2026. Ahead of the official launch, multiple teasers have confirmed that the new 3-row SUV will be offered with both hybrid and diesel powertrain options. The new Sorento will be the first model from the Korean brand to offer a strong-hybrid option in the country.
The new Sorento 7-seater SUV will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, a small battery and a six-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain offers a combined power and torque output of 238 PS and 380 Nm, respectively. However, Kia is yet to reveal the exact specifications of the India-spec model.
Previous media reports suggest that the Sorento could get the new 1.5L petrol hybrid engine, which will also power the next-gen Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. However, this engine will prove to be underpowered for a three-row premium SUV.
Kia has confirmed that the new Sorento will be powered by a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Kia Carnival. This engine churns out 202 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 441 Nm. It is expected to be offered with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Kia has also confirmed that the new Sorento will come with the all-wheel-drive or AWD setup. It will be Kia’s first ICE-powered SUV to offer an all-wheel-drive system. In the global markets, the Sorento Hybrid features a mechanical AWD system. It is claimed to achieve 0 to 100kmph acceleration in just 9.0 seconds before hitting a top speed of 196 kmph. The SUV also has different drive and terrain modes.
