Carnival Hybrid gets a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine. Electric motor produces 73.4hp and 304Nm. India launch expected soon with diesel likely to continue.
Kia is gearing up to introduce the Carnival Hybrid in India, adding a strong-hybrid powertrain to its premium MPV lineup. The company has now revealed key specifications of the upcoming model, giving us a better idea of what to expect when it arrives.
The Carnival Hybrid will get a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor. It is expected to offer better efficiency while also delivering strong performance compared to the existing diesel-powered Carnival.
The upcoming Kia Carnival Hybrid will use a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 180hp and 265Nm of peak torque. It will be paired with an electric motor that develops 73.4hp and 304Nm. Interestingly, the electric motor in the Carnival Hybrid is more powerful than the unit used in the Kia Sorento Hybrid. It produces 8.4hp and 40Nm more than the Sorento's electric motor. The hybrid system is expected to be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Higher-spec versions could also get all-wheel drive, although Kia is yet to confirm the final India-spec specifications.

The Carnival Hybrid will not replace the existing diesel version. Kia is expected to continue offering the 2.2-litre diesel engine, which produces 190hp and 441Nm. The diesel powertrain comes with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox and sends power to the front wheels. This means buyers could get a choice between diesel and hybrid powertrains once the new version arrives.
In terms of styling, the hybrid version is expected to look largely similar to the existing Carnival. The main visual change could be the addition of an HEV badge to distinguish it from the diesel model. The MPV features Kia's signature tiger-face grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps, V-shaped LED DRLs, powered sliding doors and 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, it gets connected LED taillights and a black bumper with a faux silver skid plate.
Inside, the Carnival Hybrid is expected to retain the premium cabin layout of the current model. It could continue with three rows of seating, dual 12.3-inch screens, three-zone climate control and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. The feature list is also expected to include powered, ventilated and heated front seats, along with an 8-airbag setup, Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera.
Kia has not announced an exact launch date for the Carnival Hybrid yet, but the model is expected to arrive in India soon. The company is expanding its electrified range in the country, with the Carnival Hybrid joining upcoming models such as the Sorento Hybrid and Syros EV.
The current Kia Carnival is available in a fully loaded Limousine Plus trim priced at around Rs 59.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The hybrid version is expected to command a premium over the diesel model, although official pricing will be announced closer to its launch.
