Kia India Confirms 5 Hybrid Cars: 2 Launching Within Weeks

Kia Sorento Hybrid launching on September 4 Carnival Hybrid launching this year Sonet, Carens Clavis and Seltos hybrid to launch by 2029

Kia has officially confirmed that it will launch 5 hybrid electric vehicles in the Indian market. Out of these 5 models, two will be launched before the end of this year. The company will launch the Sorento hybrid on September 4, 2026. Adding to it, the Kia Carnival will also receive a strong hybrid engine before the end of this year. At the CEO Investor Day event, Kia president and CEO Ho Sung Song confirmed that the Sonet, Carens Clavia and Kia Seltos will also receive hybrid powertrains in the Indian market by 2029.

The Korean automaker has also announced to launch a locally developed B-segment electric SUV in the country by 2029. While details on the same are yet to be revealed, it is most likely to be an all-new mid-sized SUV positioned between the Syros and the Seltos. This model could also get an ICE-derivative to rival Maruti Victoris and the upcoming Hyundai Bayon.

The Korean automaker, Kia has officially announced that the Sorento SUV will be offered with both hybrid and diesel powertrain options. It will be the first model from the Korean brand to offer a strong-hybrid option in the country. The new Sorento 7-Seat will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor, a small battery and a six-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain offers a combined power and torque output of 238 PS and 380 Nm, respectively. However, Kia is yet to reveal the exact specifications of the India-spec model.

The Sorento hybrid will also get a mechanical AWD system. It will be Kia’s first ICE-powered SUV to offer an all-wheel system. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 196 kmph.

The SUV will also get a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Kia Carnival. This engine produces 202 PS and 441 Nm of torque. It is likely to be offered with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Kia Carnival HEV

The current-gen Carnival premium MPV has been on sale in our market since 2024. It is currently available in diesel guise. Kia will soon introduce the Carnival Hybrid, which is on sale in select international markets. It uses the same 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired to a parallel hybrid system, which is available on multiple Kia models on sale in global markets. The combined power and torque output stands at 272hp and 367Nm, respectively. This engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
