Thar is one of the most popular models in Mahindra & Mahindra’s product portfolio. Launched in mid-2020, the SUV became an instant success for the brand with over 75,000 bookings received within the first year of its introduction. Recently, the automaker also announced that the Thar had reached the 1 lakh production mark in just 2.5 years. If you are planning to buy a New Thar, now may be a good time as Mahindra is offering discounts of up to Rs 40,000 for its 4x4 variants this month. Here are the essential details.
For April 2023, the automaker is offering a straight Cash Discount of Rs 40,000 on the 4x4 version of the Thar. The discount is available on both petrol and diesel variants of the SUV. However, there are no additional offers like an Exchange Bonus or Corporate Discount.
The hardcore off-road SUV is offered with multiple powertrain options. The petrol is a 2-litre turbo unit that makes 150 bhp and 300 Nm torque. While the oil burner in its case happens to be a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine which is capable of delivering a power output of 130 bhp with 300 Nm of peak torque. Both engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Prices for Mahindra Thar 4x4 start from Rs 13.59 lakh (ex-showroom) for the AX Opt soft top petrol variant, going up to Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the LX hardtop diesel AT trim. The company is also planning to launch a new stripped-down, entry-level AX AC variant that will be the most affordable Thar 4x4 till date.
Except the Force Gurkha which is priced at Rs 14.75 lakh (ex-showroom), there are no direct rivals to the Thar in India. However, that is expected to change soon with the arrival of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door this year.
