The Indian automotive market is all set to witness several new-generation product launches, with some highly popular SUVs getting major updates. If you are planning to purchase a compact or midsize SUV, here are the key details of the new-generation models of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Seltos, Tata Nexon and Hyundai Creta.
Hyundai’s subcompact SUV – Venue – will enter its second generation in late 2025. We have seen the 2025 Hyundai Venue with semi-to-heavy camouflage in multiple spy images and videos, uncovering crucial design details. Most of the cosmetic changes will be made at the front end, inspired by the Creta and Alcazar. It will feature a newly designed grille, redesigned headlamps, a tweaked bumper and a more upright nose. Other notable updates will include the newly designed alloy wheels, a revised tailgate and a redesigned rear bumper.
The all-new Venue is expected to come with a slightly upgraded interior, with new seat upholstery, redesigned dashboard, ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree camera. The engine bay will not see any change. The 2025 Hyundai Venue will continue to feature the 1.0L turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm), 1.0L naturally aspirated petrol (82bhp/115Nm) and 1.5L diesel (99bhp/240Nm) engines. The transmissions will also be carried forward from the current generation.
The competition in the midsize SUV segment is getting intense with the arrival of new models. With an aim to boost sales of the Kia Seltos, the South Korean automaker will give it a generation change sometime next year. One of the biggest upgrades might be made under the hood. The 2026 Kia Seltos is likely to come with the 1.6L hybrid powertrain with the AWD (all-wheel drive) system. The 1.5L turbo diesel (116bhp/250Nm) and 1.5L petrol (115bhp/144Nm) engines will also be carried forward.
The interior will also undergo comprehensive upgrades. While the exact details are yet to be revealed, the SUV might get a multi-layered dashboard, revised door trims and headrest, new dual-tone seat upholstery, ambient lighting system and a new two-spoke steering wheel. The 2026 Kia Seltos will receive design changes inspired by the EV5, which is sold in global markets.
One of India’s top-selling SUVs – Tata Nexon will see a generational shift in 2027. Internally known as ‘Garud’, the all-new Nexon is expected to witness significant changes inside and out. Reports suggest that the compact SUV will underpin the heavily modified version of its existing X1 platform. Major changes will also be made to the design, which are expected to be inspired by the Curvv. To enhance its value for money, Tata is likely to equip the new Nexon with a bunch of advanced features including the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite.
No changes are likely to be made under the hood. At present, the new Tata Nexon comes with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine which is good enough for 120bhp and 170Nm. If reports are to be believed, the carmaker might remove the diesel powertrain from the new Nexon lineup because of the upcoming BS7 emission norms, which will be implemented from July, 2027.
The Hyundai Creta will go hybrid with the generation change in 2027. Internally known as SX3, the SUV’s all-new model could be offered with a 1.5L petrol engine, paired to an electric motor and a strong hybrid setup. At present, the Creta is available with the 160bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol, 115bhp, 1.5L petrol and 116bhp, 1.5L diesel engine options. Details of the new-generation Hyundai Creta are not available at this point. However, it is expected to come with a significantly improved design and upgraded interior.
