The next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift was recently showcased as a production-ready concept at the Japan Mobility Show. The concept model revealed the exterior design, and powertrain updates and also highlighted its updated tech features. Although the India-spec Swift will have some differences, much of the Japan-spec model's features will surely make its way to India as well.

According to the images, the overall appearance of the upcoming Swift is similar to the existing model. However, the front fascia is significantly updated with an all-new front grille that features a new honeycomb pattern and a U-shaped chrome strip on the bottom half. Headlights have also been reworked with L-shaped LED DRLs. The design of the bumper has also been revamped with an all-new housing for the LED fog lamps.

In profile, the most significant update to the 2024 Swift is the revision of rear door handles back to their traditional mounting instead of on the C-Pillar. Changes to the rear profile are subtle but thorough. The boot lid and tail lamps have been also updated for a sharper look. However, the new Swift will get a brand-new bumper and stylish dual-tone alloy wheels.

Next-gen Swift vs Old: Interior Updates

Most prominent updates can be seen on the inside with a refreshed dashboard which will come with an all-new theme. The overall design of the cabin is similar to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Brezza and Fronx, featuring a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and toggle switches for the HVAC controls.

In addition, Maruti cars will also provide all-black semi-leather seats with a whole new design. As for the safety features, the upcoming Swift will be offered with Autonomous Braking Assist, Driver Monitoring System, Automatic High Beam Assist, and Collision Mitigation Braking System. Although some of these features could be dropped for India to keep costs in check.

Next-gen Swift vs Old: Powertrain Details

For the international market, Maruti Suzuki will offer a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol unit paired with a 48V hybrid system. However, the India-spec model might get an all-new three-cylinder 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Despite going from a four-cylinder setup to a three-cylinder setup, the model will continue to offer 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Next-gen Swift vs Old: Expected Launch and Pricing

Many customers seeking to buy an affordable hatchback are eagerly waiting for the launch of the updated Swift model. The fourth-gen Swift is likely to reach the Indian shores anytime in the first half of 2024. As far as the prices are concerned, it might cost Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards and will compete against the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS.
