To begin with, all models in this comparison come equipped with a diesel engine option. As for petrol derivatives, there are restricted to only a few models. The diesel manual version of the newly launched Scorpio- N starts at an introductory price of Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom) while the next cheapest option, the Scorpio Classic is available at a price tag of Rs 13.54 lakh (ex-showroom). The most expensive model here is the Hyundai Alcazar whose base diesel trim starts only at Rs 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom). At the top end, all models are similarly priced in the manual guise. Prices for the automatic variants cannot be compared at moment because Mahindra has not revealed them yet for the Scorpio N. The Scorpio N along with Hyundai Alcazar are the only SUVs to get a petrol powertrain and the difference in their pricing is more than Rs 4.5 lakh, making the Scorpio N a steal deal.

When comparing the dimensions, the Scorpio-N truly out runs its competition and stands true to its “Big Daddy of SUVs” title. It is the longest SUV in the segment followed by the Safari that is just 1 mm shorter. The Scorpio-N also sports the widest track in the segment with a width of 1,917 mm while the next best is the Safari measuring 1,894 mm, followed by the Scorpio Classic and Alcazar measuring 1,820 mm and 1,790 mm respectively.
The old Scorpio is still the tallest SUV in this comparison as Mahindra has reduced the height in interest of stability. The Scorpio-N measures 1,857 mm in height which is significantly taller than the Safari and the Alcazar.
What comes as a big surprise is the long wheelbase of the Hyundai Alcazar which stands at 2760 mm, almost 10 mm longer than the competition. The Hyundai is followed by the Tata Safari and the Mahindra Scorpio-N measuring 2,751 mm and 2,750 mm respectively.

In terms of overall power output, the Scorpio-N is the most powerful SUV of the lot in both petrol and diesel guise. The vehicle is capable of producing 205 bhp and 175 bhp respectively. The Alcazar is the only other SUV with both powertrain option rated for a maximum power output of 159 bhp (petrol) and 115 bhp (diesel).
The Tata Safari and the regular Scorpio are only available with a diesel engine and produce 170 bhp and 136 bhp respectively.
Except for the Scorpio Classic, all SUVs in this comparison are available with both a manual and automatic transmission options.
So based on this comparison we can confirm that the Scorpio N has a lot going for it. But time will only tell if the company can fix its production woes and meet the customer demand.
