Mahindra Scorpio Classic Overview
Mahindra had launched the Scorpio lifestyle SUV in the Indian market in 2002. The Mahindra Scorpio has been one of the most successful SUVs on sale in India.
To celebrate its successful journey, Mahindra launched the Scorpio Classic SUV in the country in August 2022. This car currently sits below the modern and feature-loaded Scorpio N.
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic retains the robust and muscular character of the iconic SUV. It also receives some modern highlights both inside and outside. Mahindra aims to offer a more upmarket lifestyle SUV for both urban and rural markets. The Scorpio Classic is available as the seven and nine-seater SUV with diesel manual gearbox combination.

The S is the base variant of the Scorpio Classic. It lacks basic features like power windows, automatic AC, power mirrors, music system and height adjustable driver seat.
This variant offers a wide range of features that are missing in the lower-spec S variant. It gets a 9-inch touchscreen, 6 speakers, power mirrors, height adjustable steering wheel, cruise control and others.
Expert Opinion - We recommend you to go for the S11 variant. The base variant lacks basic features like music system, power windows and height adjustment for the driver seat. The top variant gets many more features. Customers can also opt for the Scorpio N that offers more features and more powerful engines.
Scorpio Classic Key Features
- 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with phone screen mirroring
- Intellipark, fully automatic AC with rear AC vents

Mileage

11-12kmpl |
The Scorpio Classic offers an ARAI certified mileage of 14.44kmpl. In real world condition, the SUV should offer an average fuel economy of around 11-12kmpl.
Mahindra Scorpio Classic Exterior
The new Scorpio Classic comes with significant design changes to make it look more appealing than the older Scorpio. It sports a new front grille with vertical slats that houses Mahindra's twin peak logo. The Mahindra logo comes in chrome. The SUV has new projector-style headlights with daytime running lamps, and new bumper.
The SUV has a strong plastic cladding that houses "SCORPIO" insignia. The flared wheel arches house the newly developed 17-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the SUV gets a side-opening door and tower-shaped tail-lamp reflectors.
Mahindra Scorpio Classic Interior
The new Mahindra Scorpio Classic comes with a dual-tone black and beige interior scheme. This is a huge departure from the darker interiors of the previous model. The air conditioning vent is positioned right on the top of the central console. It also houses a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Bluetooth and phone screen mirroring.
Mahindra added faux wood inserts around the gear lever. Adding to it, the SUV gets leather-wrapped steering wheel housing audio and cruise control features. It comes with automatic air conditioning, height adjustable driver seat, semi-digital instrument console, rear AC vents and others.
Dimensions and Boot Space
The new Scorpio Classic measures 4456mm in length, 1820mm in width and 1995mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2680mm, while the ground clearance stands at 209mm. The 7-seater version offers a boot space of 460-litres that is more than sufficient to carry your luggage bags.
Infotainment and Connectivity (Music System)
The new Scorpio Classic gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Bluetooth/USB/AUX and Phone Screen Mirroring compatibility. This SUV has 6 speakers and 2 tweeters. The music system is decent, but not as good as one available in the ScorpioN.
Safety Features
The new Mahindra Scorpio Classic gets decent safety and security features. It has dual front airbags, ABS, seat belt warning, engine immobilizer, central locking, speed sensing door locks, etc. It also has child safety lock, rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system and reverse camera with guidelines.
Warranty and Maintenance
Mahindra is offering a standard warranty of 3 years or unlimited kilometers, whichever comes earlier, on the Scorpio Classic. The company is also providing extended warranty to its customers.
Competition
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic has no direct rival in the market. It comes as a lifestyle SUV with popularity among rural and semi-urban car buyers. On the basis of pricing, the Classic SUV challenges the Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and others.

Performance
The engine vibrations are limited and mostly offer a smooth drive. Mahindra has added cable shift technology that improves the gear shift experience. The torque is available as early as 1000rpms that improves the overall tractability.
The strong mid-range and seamless power delivery ensures effortless highway cruising. It comes with a robust suspension setup that allows Scorpio Classic to cruise through small bumps and bad roads without any fuss.
The heavy steering hampers the Scorpio Classic performance in City traffic. Moreover, the clutch operations are heavy and the long travel could make drivers tired during bumper-to-bumper drive. The boxy design adds to its body roll during sharp turns and quick lane change. It misses out on the automatic gearbox option.
Comfort and Convenience
The Scorpio Classic is available in two seating layouts - 7-seater and 9-seater. The 7-seater model has captain seats in second row and front-facing third row seats. The 9-seater variant has bench seats in second row and side facing third-row seats.
The second row seats offer good space to accommodate three adults. It offers excellent legroom, headroom and kneeroom space. The well-cushioned seats offer good under-thigh support that improves the comfort during long drives.
One can access the third-row side-facing seats using the boot. This adds to its convenience. The side facing seats are foldable that can create bigger boot space.
The overall cabin feels outdated with use of scratchy materials and hard plastic. The fit and finish, and plastic quality is not up to the mark. It has a touchscreen infotainment system, but misses Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The central console not ergonomically designed. Customers face difficulty accessing storage spaces, USB and AUX buttons and AC switches while driving. The SUV lacks storage spaces as the front door pockets have no bottle holder. The third-row passengers often brush their legs because of lack of space.
