Hyundai Bayon India Launch Confirmed: Expected Price, 1.5L Engine, CNG and Features

Hyundai Motor India has officially announced the launch of the Hyundai Bayon midsize SUV for the Indian market. Positioned between the sub-4 metre Venue and the next-gen Creta, the Bayon will be the brand's new model and is expected to be launched during festive season, ahead of Diwali. 

1. Positioning & Expected Price Range

The new Hyundai Bayon is expected to measure around 4.2-4.3 meters in length, and will bridge the gap between the Venue and the next-gen Creta. The next-gen Hyundai Creta is expected to measure around 4.45 meters in length, leaving enough gap to accommodate a new midsize SUV. This SUV will aim at buyers looking for crossover styling, higher ground clearance, and premium tech along with a competitive pricing. 

Expected Price: it is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom.

Key Rivals: the Hyundai Bayon will rival the likes of the Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. 

2. Powertrain: 1.5L petrol engine and CNG

The India-spec Hyundai Bayon is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Creta and the Verna. This engine is capable of producing 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic. 

CNG variant:  the Bayon will be the first Hyundai measuring over 4 meters in length to feature a factory-fitted CNG kit. It is expected to get a factory-fitted 1.5L Hy-CNG dual-cylinder setup. However, few media reports claim that the company is also preparing an underbody CNG tank. 

3. Exterior and Interior Styling

Hyundai has released design sketches and multiple teaser videos, revealing that the India-spec model gets a more premium and boxier silhouette than the outgoing European-spec crossover. The SUV adopts Hyundai's new "Art of Steel" design language. 

The SUV features an upright stance, wider front bumper with silver skid plates, split LED lighting with a continuous H-Edge LED DRL band, chunky wheel arch cladding, roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, and LED tail-lights connected via a thick black strip.

The Hyundai Bayon cabin layout appears identical to the next-gen i20 hatchback, which has recently been introduced in the international market. It gets a dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrument console, high-mounted center console, layered dashboard, and a four-dot steering wheel layout. 

4. Key Features

The Hyundai Bayon will come with dual integrated displays, including a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, and a 12.3-inch digital driver's display. Key features likely to include panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, automatic climate control, ambient cabin lighting, and connected car tech. 

As standard safety, the SUV will get 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist, and seat-belt reminders for all passengers, ABS with EBD, and others. It will also get LEVEL 2 ADAS suite with active features like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and others.
