Hyundai cars Vs Tata Motors is an exciting battle that is brewing in the Indian passenger vehicle segment. Over the last couple of year, Tata cars exciting products like the Nexon and the Punch have consistently outscored their rivals from Hyundai to help the company close in on the converted second place. The Korean automaker had a secure grip on its standing until 2022, only to be taken away by the Indian powerhouse first in April 2023 and now again in November.
According to the data shared by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Tata Motors sold 53,539 units in November 2023 while Hyundai managed just 49,716 units. This resulted in Tata commanding 14.85 percent market share for November while Hyundai just managed 13.79 percent.
In this story, we will tell you all the reasons why Tata Motors is set to conquer the second spot in the Indian passenger vehicle segment.
Since 2017, Tata Motors has adopted a new strategy for its range of vehicles called the ‘New Forever’. As part of this philosophy, the company promised to deliver vehicles that boast of aesthetic design and feature-rich cabins along with high safety standards, better engine performance and driving pleasure, in comparison to some of their previous models. The first car built under this thought was the Tata Nexon which launched in 2017 with a completely reworked X1 platform that underpinned models like the Indica and the Indica Vista.
After the Nexon, the brand introduced the Tata Harrier SUV and the Tata Altroz premium hatchback built on the Omega and the Alfa architectures, ending its practice of developing specific platforms for every model. This move worked wonders for the brand and since then the company has streamlined all its models to be built either on the Omega or the Alfa platforms.
Currently, the Tata Harrier and the Tata Safari along with the Tata Nexon.ev are the most well-equipped cars in their segments. Additionally, the brand also updates its cars frequently with many special and limited-edition models.
One of the key components of Tata Motors business strategy that has helped it inch closer to the second spot is its ability to develop and adapt to the changing Indian market conditions. The brand launched its first mass-market EV the Tata Tigor EV in March 2017 reserved for institutional buyers. But since then, it has launched models like the Nexon.ev, Tiago.ev and the Tigor.ev, to claim the number 1 position in the electric passenger vehicle segment.
Tata Motors’s EV models come powered by the latest ZipTron technology which offers best-in-class range along with adequate performance that keeps its customers engaged. With the recently launched Nexon.ev the company also introduced a new concept called the Arcade.ev through which customers can stream videos or play games while waiting at a charger.
For its future, Tata Motors has planned an attractive list of cars, that will help it cement itself as the second-highest passenger vehicle seller in the country. The first model expected in 2024 includes the Tata Punch.ev followed by the new Tata Curvv.ev. Additionally, we can also expect the Tata Altroz.ev to be launched in the country along with the return of the Tata Sierra.ev.
