JSW MG Motor India has launched the MG Hector Tomahawk PHEV, which also marks the debut of plug-in hybrid tech to the mass market segment. The SUV bridges the gap between traditional cars and full EVs, as it combines pure-electric city driving with an internal combustion engine for long-distance highway trips.
Here are the top 10 key facts to know before bringing one home:
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle setup comprises a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (runs on Atkinson Cycle), a 20.5 kWh battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor. The system produces power and torque worth 198 hp and 230Nm, respectively. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in around 9 seconds. Power is transmitted to front wheels through an Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
City commutes - claimed to offer a pure-electric range of over 115km, allowing daily city commutes without using a single drop of fuel.
Highway Cruising - Paired with the 1.5L NA petrol engine, the combined range expands to over 1,100 km, eliminating range anxiety on long trips.
Unlike standard self-charging hybrids, this plug-in hybrid lets iser charge its battery directly.
DC fast charging: its battery supports up to 25 kW DC fast charging, which takes the battery from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes.
Home Charging: it comes with a 3.3 kW AC home charger that takes roughly 7.5 hours for a 10% to 100% top-up/
MG offers two ways to buy the vehicle, which significantly changes the upfront costs.
Standard Pricing: the new Hector Tomahawk PHEV is available in two variants, Exclusive and Essence, priced at Rs 25.59 lakh and Rs 27.79 lakh, respectively, ex-showroom.
BaaS Ownership: this rental scheme lowers the entry price to Rs 21.79 lakh, with a usage-based battery rental fee of Rs 3.20 per kilometre.
The Hector Tomahawk PHEV is exclusively available in a 7-seater layout, 2+3+2 configuration. With all three rows in position, the boot space is limited to 192-litres. By folding the third-row seats, the cargo space increased to 528-litres. Unlike EVs, the PHEV don't offer frunk as the front houses both the engine and electric motor components.
Exclusive (Base Trim): it gets a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a 36-degree surround view camera.
Essence (Top Trim): by paying an extra Rs 2.1 lakh, customers can get 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a 10-speaker infinity sound system, Level-2 ADAS tech, auto-dimming IRVM, and vehicle-to-load, vehicle-to-home power sharing.
While sharing the ADAPT modular platform with its pure EV counterpart, the Hector Tomahawk PHEV comes with distinctive styling tweaks:
- Functional front grille with chrome inserts for engine cooling
- Silver bull-bar accent on the front bumper
- A white contrasting roof in the dual-tone models, EV gets a black roof
- Top-end variant rides on specific 18-in alloy wheels, and features red brake calipers

The cabin features a premium dual-tone brown-and-black interior theme, while the EV gets a lighter beige-and-black scheme.
Infotainment: it gets an up to 15.6-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Reverse Charging: the top-spec Essence trim supports V2V, V2L and V2H capabilities, which turns your car into a power source for appliances or another electric vehicle.
Connected tech: the PHEV gets an integrated AI assistant, pro pet mode, in-car karaoke app, and built-in roof antenna.
As standard, the SUV gets 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, all-wheel disc brakes, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), reverse camera, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat mounts. The higher-spec Essence variant adds LEVEL 2 ADAS features like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
JSW MG Motor India offers a standard 3-3-3 package with the PHEV, which includes 3 years of unlimited-kilometre warranty, 3 years of roadside assistance, and 3 labor-free services. Bookings are open, and its deliveries and test drives are scheduled to commence from November 2026.
