The Tata Sierra EV is the seventh electric passenger vehicle (PV) from the indigenous automaker in India. The EV lineup is currently available in five trims, Pure, Pure S, Adventure, Empowered and Empowered A, priced from Rs 18.79 lakh – Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it directly takes on the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Vinfast VF6 and MG ZS EV.

Design Review

Similar to the Harrier EV, the Tata Sierra EV is built on the Acti.ev+ architecture and looks identical to its ICE counterpart. However, it gets a few EV-specific cosmetic changes that set it apart. It features a slightly revised front bumper with additional gloss black trim, a body-coloured panel surrounding headlamps, ‘Sierra.ev’ badges on the sides and tailgate, and alloy wheels measuring up to 19-inches.

Interior Review

The interior of the Sierra EV shares a strong resemblance with the ICE-powered version. It has a leatherette-bound dashboard with a triple screen setup including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 12.3-inch front passenger display.

The electric SUV comes with a comprehensive feature list including a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system, connected car tech, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a cabin air purifier, powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, auto park assist, a powered tailgate, a head-up display, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functionality, over-the-air (OTA) updates, a digital key, 6 airbags, Level 2 ADAS and more.

Performance

Tata Sierra EV Drive Review

The Sierra EV is available with two battery options, 63kWh and 75kWh. Both are paired with a rea-mounted electric motor producing 315Nm of torque in the RWD variants. The 63kWh variant delivers 238bhp and a claimed MIDC-certified range of 535km, while the 75kWh variant produces power worth 209bhp and offers a range of up to 665km.

The larger 75kWh battery pack is also available with dual motor AWD setup, delivering a claimed range of 624km on a single charge. In Boost mode, the Sierra EV AWD does 0 to 100kmph in 5.8 seconds. The electric SUV also offers six terrain modes – Normal, Mud/Gravel, Grass/Snow, Rock Crawl, Sand and Custom.

Tata Sierra EV Off-road Experience

The Sierra EV supports 120kW DC fast charging and a standard 7.2kW AC charging. Using a 120kW DC fast charger, the battery pack can be charged from 20 percent to 80 percent in 26 minutes, while a 15 minute charge adds up to 263km of claimed driving range. With a 7.2kWh AC charger, the 63kWh battery pack takes 8.9 hours to charge fully, whereas the 75kWh takes 10.5 hours. The carmaker is offering a lifetime battery warranty, valid for up to 15-year period from the date of first registration.

Ride & Handling

Sierra EV Ride and Handling

The Tata Sierra EV offers a perfect balance of comfort and performance. Its Frequency Dependent Dampers (FDD) suspension system, shared with the Harrier.ev, absorbs potholes and rough terrains effectively and ensures a comfortable ride. The SUV remains stable at high speeds and offers a confidence inspiring ride during quick lane changes. The steering feels light in city traffic, while offering good feedback and control on highways. Its body roll isn’t noticeable.

Verdict

Sierra EV Verdict

The Tata Sierra EV is one of the brand’s most capable electric SUVs currently on sale in India. With its modern styling, spacious and feature-rich interior and strong practicality, it makes a perfect package for urban families. The refined driving experience and AWD performance make it an attractive deal for enthusiasts as well. However, minor issues such as inconsistent fit and finish along with slightly higher pricing than some of its rivals might disappoint a few buyers.
