The French automaker, Renault is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. The company has recently introduced the heavily updated Triber MPV. In a bid to regain lost market share, Renault is planning to launch 2 brand new SUVs, including the third-generation Duster and a new 7-seater SUV based on the Boreal. The 2026 Renault Duster is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2026, most probably around March.
Production of the new-gen Renault Duster is likely to start in September, 2025 at Renault-Nissan’s Chennai manufacturing facility. It will first come in petrol avatar, while a hybrid version is also under development with launch expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
The third-gen Renault Duster will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The lower-spec variants could either get a 1.5L NA petrol or a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
Details about the hybrid engine are still under wraps. It is expected that Renault could use the same strong hybrid engine that is available in the global-spec model. In the international markets, the Duster gets a 94bhp, 1.6L, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which works with dual electric motors - a 49bhp and a high-voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery. The hybrid set-up offers a combined power output of 140bhp. The company claims that the Duster hybrid can purely run on electric drive for up to 80 percent of city commutes. Not just hybrid powertrain, Renault could also launch the CNG version of the new Duster.
The global-spec model also gets a new 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid tech. This engine produces 129bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox driving the power to all-4 wheels comes as standard. The 4WD version comes wth a ground clearance of 217mm and an approach angle of up to 31 degree. It has 4WD terrain control with 5 modes - Auto, Eco, Mud & Sand, Snow and Off-Road.
