Mahindra Thar OG Full Price List, Engine Options and Key Changes

Mahindra has launched the Thar OG, the 3-door lifestyle off-roader at a starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh, ex-showroom. The updated model comes with “OG” suffix, new-gen platform, updated suspension setup, more powerful engine options, new features, and safety tech. The company has also made several changes to its design and interiors. 

Mahindra Thar OG Price List

The Thar OG is available in three trim levels - AXT, LXT and ZXT - priced between Rs 10.32 lakh and Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The base AXT is only available with a single 1.5L diesel engine with RWD setup and a manual gearbox, while the LXT and ZXT trims are offered with three engines and two gearbox options. The top-of-the-line ZXT Diesel 4WD AT is available at a price tag of Rs 18.99 lakh. The Mahindra Thar OG directly rivals the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. 

Exterior Changes

The Thar OG comes with an all-new front fascia, featuring a redesigned grille with ‘THAR’ word mark, new LED headlamps with signature C-shaped daytime running lights, and new LED fog lamps with a built-in cornering function. The SUV gets new front and rear bumpers. It also has a wider track than the outgoing model. Its design seems heavily inspired by the Thar Roxx. The 2026 Thar rides on new 19-inch alloy wheels. Other changes include new LED tail-lights and ‘OG’ branding on the tailgate. Mahindra has also introduced two new paint options, including Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue. 

Interior and Key Features

The overall dashboard layout is largely identical to the older model; however, the SUV gets some noticeable changes. It gets a new Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, and an armrest for the second row occupants. Mahindra has also added more sound deadening materials to improve NVH Levels. 

It gets a new touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, automatic AC and a 360-degree surround view camera. The Thar OG gets six speaker sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and powered ORVMs. 

For safety and security, the Thar OG select variants get 6 airbags and a segment first ‘4 Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder (HPTS’ airbag system, which keeps rear occupants safe in case of side impact. The SUV now gets disc brakes for all wheels, ESP suite (roll-over mitigation, traction control, hill-hold control and vehicle dynamics control), and front parking sensors. 

New-Age Platform and Suspension Setup

The Mahindra Thar OG is based on the “M_Glyde 4G” platform, which also underpins the larger Thar Roxx. Adding to it, the 3-door model gets rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link for improved ride quality and stability. It also gets the Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) technology, also known as “DAVINCI dampers”. 

The Thar OG gets Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) system, which can lock the rear axle electronically and improves traction when going through slippery surfaces. The SUV also has dedicated terrain modes such as Mud, Sand and Snow. The 3-door Mahindra Thar also gets an electronic power steering (EPS) setup, which makes low-speed drive and parking easier. 

Engine Specifications

The Mahindra Thar OG comes with the same 1.5L turbo diesel, 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines. The 2.0L direct-injection turbo petrol engine is tuned to produce 162hp and 330Nm, that’s 10hp and 30Nm more than the old model. The 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo diesel engine is capable of producing 152hp and 330Nm of torque, which is an increase of 18hp and 30Nm.

The 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine produces 119hp and 300Nm of torque, and is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L diesel engines are offered with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic. Depending on the variant, the Thar OG can be offered with either rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) layout.
