The Korean automaker, Hyundai has recently announced to introduce a new off-road SUV in the Indian market. Global media also reported that the company is developing an all-new off-road SUV to challenge the dominance of Toyota 4Runner. The Korean brand has now unveiled an all-new off-roader concept, called the Hyundai Crater, at the 2025 LA Auto Show.
The new Crater takes inspiration from Hyundai’s US-focused off-road XRT line-up. For people not in the know, the Korean brand is offering XRT trim on cars like Ioniq 5, Tucson and Santa FE in the US. These cars are draped in off-road kit to aid driving off the rough track.

Hyundai claims that the Crater Concept is a “rolling embodiment of Hyundai’s commitment to designing even more versatility and emotion into future XRT models.” The concept is an electric vehicle, and is not likely to enter the production cycle.
Hyundai has not revealed any technical details of the Crater. It is expected to get 84kWh battery pack, which is offered with the Ioniq 5. It has a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system.

The off-roader gets chunky body panels, greater approach and departure angles along with massive off-road tyres. The company said that the wheels are inspired by a ‘hexagonal asteroid impacting a sheer metal landscape.”
The concept has typical off-road elements such as protective skid plates underneath, took hooks and ‘limb risers’ on the bonnet. The Crater gets unique backward opening rear doors (No B-pillar) and digital ORVMs. The auxiliary lights on the roof seem inspired by the Hyundai Insteroid concept, which was revealed earlier this year.

The Hyundai Crater has a crazy looking cabin, featuring a cylindrical structure “suspended” by two straps. There are four small, removable square screens display widgets that can be popped out of the car entirely.

The Crater cabin comes with multiple useful equipment for adventurers. There’s a first aid kit, a removable Bluetooth speaker on the centre console, fire extinguisher and a full roll cage.
