Tata Motors is readying multiple new cars including the Curvv and the Harrier EV, which will be launched in the next 1 year. Not just new models, the homegrown UV maker will also update its existing line-up by adding new variants. The long-awaited Tata Altroz Racer is all set to go on sale in our market in June 2024.
For people not in the know, Tata had showcased the sportier Altroz hatch at the 2023 Auto Expo. In fact, a slightly different version of the hot hatch was presented to public at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Show.
The Tata Altroz Racer hot hatchback will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Nexon compact SUV. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 170Nm of torque, which is good 10bhp and 30Nm higher than the existing Altroz iTurbo. Instead of a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Altroz Racer is likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Altroz Racer showcased at the BMS 2024 has received multiple visual changes along with some new features addition. It appears more sportier than the regular model. The sportier hatch gets a dual-tone paint scheme with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. There is a 'Racer' badge firmly placed on the front fenders. The front fascia gets a prominent grille to offer a sporty feel. It rides on a newly styled 16-inch alloy wheels.
The major changes are made inside the cabin, which now appears more premium and feature-loaded. It comes with a new, bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The same infotainment unit is available on bigger Tata SUVs including the Nexon, Harrier and Safari.
Adding to it, the hatchback will have high-end features like ventilated front seats, a HUD or Heads-Up Display, a 360-degree camera and an electric sunroof. To give it a sporty feel, the hot hatch is likely to get new leatherette upholstery with contrasting stitching. Adding to it, the 'Racer' insignia will be embossed on the seats. For safety, the hatchback is likely to offer 6 airbags, ESC, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, reverse camera and others.
The new Altroz Racer will be positioned above the Altroz iTurbo, which costs about Rs 9.20 lakh - 10.10 lakh. We expect the new model to be priced somewhere around Rs 11 lakh. It will directly rival the Hyundai i20 N Line, which is priced in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12.52 lakh.
