Next-gen Toyota Fortuner launch expected in 2027 To be based on the IMV platform Likely to get ADAS tech, sunroof and others
The next-generation Toyota Hilux is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market on July 28, 2026. This lifestyle pick-up also previews the next-gen Toyota Fortuner, which is expected to be introduced in our market sometime in 2027-28. Both Hilux and Fortuner shares the same platform, powertrains and several components.
It was speculated that the next-gen Hilux and Fortuner will move the expensive TNGA-F modular platform; however, Toyota sticks to the existing IMV platform for the Hilux. This suggests that the next-gen Fortuner will also retain the existing platform and powertrain. Previous reports suggest that the all-new SUV could debut in late 2026, while its India launch likely in 2027.
The next generation Toyota Fortuner will carry a more evolved and sharper design language. Similar to the new Hilux, the 7-seater SUV could get a new honeycomb pattern grille, sleeker LED headlamps and ’TOYOTA’ badging on a black plastic trim. It will have an aggressive front bumper, newly styled LED Daytime Running Lamps and fog lamps.
The SUV is expected to get a redesigned tailgate and slimmer wraparound tail-lamps, which are connected via an LED light bar. Its overall dimensions are likely to receive some changes with slight increase in length, width and height. The current model measures 4,795mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,835m in height, and a wheelbase of 2,745mm.
The 2027 Toyota Fortuner will come with a more premium and feature-loaded cabin than the current model. However, the dashboard layout and fit and finish, and the material quality will be significantly improved. It is likely to get a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully digital instrument console.
The next-generation Fortuner will be equipped with an ADAS suite with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, blind spot monitoring and others. In terms of features, the SUV could get a 360-degree surround view camera, ventilated and powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, and more.
The next-generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to get the same powertrain options, including a 2.7L NA petrol, a 2.8L turbo diesel and a 2.8L turbo diesel with a 48V mild-hybrid tech. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. A 4WD (four-wheel drive) system will continue to be offered on select variants.
