The subcompact SUV segment is probably the most competitive and fastest-growing segment in the country currently. A combination of compact dimensions and excellent round clearance makes these vehicles, a perfect fit for India roads. Every automaker has an offering in the segment or is developing one.
If you are looking for a subcompact SUV, then the Kia Sonet makes a great choice. Ever since its launch last year, it has become one of the best-selling vehicles in the segment. But what makes the South Korean offering such a popular car in India? We look at 5 reasons why you should buy the Sonet over other subcompact SUVs.

The practicality of a subcompact SUV is one of the biggest aspects for its rapid growth in the segment. The combination of good ground clearance and a tall driving position make these vehicles a perfect fit for the Indian market.
The Kia Sonet has a ground clearance of 211 mm, making it more than capable of dealing with deep potholes and large speed breakers with ease. In addition, the car also get a big boot of 392 litres making it easy to pack for your weekend trip or even extended ones.

The Kia Sonet is among the most feature-rich vehicles in its segment. Depending on the spec you buy, the Sonet will get features a wither an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, auto headlights, and more.

The Sonet also comes loaded with safety features like ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, and twin airbags as standard on all models. The top-of-the-line variants also get ESP, hills assist, six airbags, and vehicle stability management as standard.

While there are a few other subcompact SUV rivals that offer driving modes, the Kia Sonet offers the most. There are three standard modes – Normal, Eco, and Sport. In addition, the Sonet also gets Mud, Snow, and Snow traction modes that help you out when you’re facing difficult off-road terrains.

If you’re a driving enthusiast, then the standard 1.2-litre petrol may be a bit underwhelming for you. However, the vehicle also comes in a 1-litre turbo-petrol guise that makes 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak figures. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, this model of the subcompact SUV is a joy to drive.

Ever since BS6 norms came into place, automakers have largely discontinued diesel engines for their subcompact SUV offerings. The Kia Sonet is one of the select few where you get diesel power as an option and also gets an auto transmission option. The Sonet diesel manual makes 99 bhp and 240 Nm of peak figures, while the auto, increases it to 113 bhp and 250 Nm.
The Kia Sonet diesel automatic may be the best model in the whole lineup. It makes slightly less power than the turbo-petrol but has significantly more torque. Add the added fuel efficiency of a diesel, it just makes the deal sweeter.
