Would like to know, what the All-New Mahindra Scorpio is all about? Here are ‘Top 5 Things That You Should Know’ between the New Scorpio and the old one.
Marketing has finally started. After months of testing and millions of spy shots later, Mahinda & Mahindra has finally released a teaser of the All-New Scorpio. Expected to be launched in June to celebrate 20 years of the iconic nameplate, the third-generation model will sport updates to its styling, technology and engines. Here are five key differences between the 'old and the New Scorpio'.

1. All-New Mahindra Scorpio vs Old - Exterior Styling:
While the car retains its boxy shape and ladder frame construction, it gets a more rounded design. The new model's front end features a new multi-slatted front grille with chrome embellishments in place of the old 7-slat grille, similar to Jeep models. The spy shots suggest that the company has dropped the hood scoop and extended the nose to provide the SUV with a cleaner look. The old model already came with LED headlamps and taillights, but the new units take it a step further. We can also expect the new model to feature a dynamic lighting sequence similar to the one seen on the Mahindra XUV700. Moving away from the design of the current generation, the alloy wheels get a fresh look with diamond cutting and a two tone finish. Completing the front look, the 2022 model has a reprofiled bumper with a chunky bash plate and a C-shaped fog lamp housing.

2. All-New Mahindra Scorpio vs Old - Interior styling:
Unlike the industrial design of the current cabin, the new model will have an upmarket feel with a large central infotainment screen along with a digital drivers display. The new dashboard design seems to take inspiration from the XUV700 and will offer additional connected car features. According to the spy shot, the 2022 model will also be the first Scorpio to receive a sunroof and an e-parking brake. Mahindra has also paid close attention to interior feel, the hard plastics found on the current generation Scorpio are replaced with leather and soft touch materials. The new cabin will get full leather seats with a new dual-tone brown and walnut colour upholstery instead of the half fabric seats seen on the 2nd generation model. Further, Mahindra will ditch the side facing seats on the last row for a bench seat and captain seats in the front two rows. This allows for better utilisation of the boot space when the last row of seats are not in use.

3. All-New Mahindra Scorpio vs Old – Engines Options:
One of the most significant changes comes in the form of the powertrain. The Scorpio will ditch its 2179cc MHAWK diesel engine in favour of a larger 2184cc mill. The new model will also be offered with a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Both these engines are currently doing duty on the New Mahindra Thar and the XUV700. In terms of gearbox option, the company will continue to offer a 6-speed manual along with a new and efficient 6-speed automatic.

Like the current model, the 2022 Scorpio will be offered with a 4X4 transferase and low range. The new 4X4 unit will be more efficient than the one seen on the outgoing model.
4. All-New Mahindra Scorpio vs Old – Technology:
To start, the current generation Scorpio is a well-equipped vehicle. It is among the few SUVs that offer features like rain-sensing wipers, dual front airbags, static bending beams and more. But for the new model, we can expect the company to provide features like 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, Hill-Hold and Hill Descent Control, 3D Sony audio and more. We can also presume that the homegrown carmaker will provide some ADAS functions like radar-guided cruise control and lane-keep assist to make the SUV future proof. We believe that the added equipment and more efficient construction will help the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio fair better if put through a crash safety test.

5. All-New Mahindra Scorpio vs Old – Launch Date and Pricing in India:
The third generation of the Scorpio is expected to be launched in June, 20 years after the first generation was introduced. The current generation Scorpio price starts at Rs 13.5 lakhs (ex-showroom), but with added technology and better styling we expect Mahindra to price the new Scorpio between Rs 15 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, the new model will rival the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus in its category.
So with the launch nearing, are you excited about this SUV? Will the added technology and a new design peak your interest? Let us know in the comment section below.
