The Indian automotive landscape is witnessing the arrival of India’s leading industrialist into the passenger car business: the Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group. However, car buyers, and enthusiasts face brand confusion. While JSW Motors is already in association with MG Motor India is selling products, JSW Group has confirmed its entry as a standalone carmaker (JSW Motors) before the end of this year.
So, JSW Motors Vs JSW MG Motor India what is the difference same company, or are they separate car manufacturers under one parent corporate house? Here is a clear breakdown of the corporate structure, technology partnerships, and upcoming vehicle lineups.
While both brands operate under the JSW Group, they function as separate automotive business units with distinct partners, manufacturing units, sales networks, and vehicle portfolios.

It is a strategic joint venture formed when JSW Group acquired a 35 per cent stake in SAIC Motor’s Indian operations, called MG Motor India.
This venture operates MG’s existing manufacturing plant in Halol, Gujarat. It handles all current MG-badged vehicles in India, including the Comet EV, Windsor EV, ZS EV, Hector, Gloster and Hector Tomahawk EV and PHEV. Cars sold through this entity comes with the iconic MG octagonal logo.
It is an independent, wholly owned automotive subsidiary of the JSW Group. This brand operates as a homegrown Indian OEM, and set to join the likes of the Tata Motors and Mahindra.
The company has a Greenfield manufacturing facility and assembly facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Formely Aurangabad), Maharashtra. The vehicles will be sold directly under the JSW brand nameplate through an independent dealer network.
JSW Motors India new car brand and Jetour Chery partnership reveals how JSW is building a standalone car company without developing platforms entirely from scratch. JSW Motors has signed a licensing and component supply agreement with China’s Chery Automobile.
How it Works: Chery Automobile will provide vehicle platform architectures, body panels, powertrain tech, and electrical systems to JSW Motors. The homegrown brand will re-engineer, adapts and assembles these models locally at its Maharashtra facility, re-badging them as JSW cars.
The agreement gives JSW access to Chery’s global SUV portfolios including Jetour, iCAR, and Jaecoo.
The first vehicle from the new JSW Motors will be revealed on December 4, 2026. Based on the global Jetour T2, the 5-seater SUV is likely to be called the JSW Combat in India.
Plug-in Hybrid Tech: The JSW Combat will be powered by a 1.5L direct-injection turbo petrol engine mated to two electric motors and an 18.4 kWh battery pack, The powertrain offers a combined power and torque output of 360 hp and 610 Nm, respectively. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The India-spec model is expected to get both front-wheel-drive and AWD versions.
The plug-in hybrid SUV offers an all-electric range of up to 90 km (NEDC) and a combined range of around 1200km. Using a 50 kW DC fast charger, the battery can achieve 30% to 80% charging status in around 27 minutes. On the other hand, the battery can fully charge using a 6.6 kW AC charger in 3 hours.
