With skyrocketing fuel prices, the demand for CNG cars is on the rise in India. More and more manufacturers are joining the race by launching new and unique CNG products. Among the existing manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki leads this space with its extensive CNG line-up. AmonHere’s a list of the four recently launched CNG cars in India in 2023.
The Tata Altroz CNG is the latest offering in this space. Offered in six variants, the Altroz CNG retails between Rs 7.55 lakh and Rs 10.55 lakh (ex-showroom).

This environment-friendly premium hatch gets a factory-fitted CNG kit paired with its 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and 5-speed manual gearbox. This unit is rated for a maximum power output of 76.4 bhp and peak torque of 103Nm.
The most impressive feat about the Altroz CNG is its twin-cylinder technology that combines two small-size cylinders instead of one large tank, thus opening up more functional luggage space and increasing practicality.
As far as features are considered, the Tata Altroz CNG boasts of automatic LED projector headlamps, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech with OTA updates, auto AC, rear AC vents, wireless smartphone charger, and a single-pane electric sunroof.
The Altroz CNG faces competition from Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and its rebadged cousin, the Toyota Glanza CNG.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza compact SUV is the latest car from the company to be offering with factory fitted CNG. It comes equipped with a 1.5-litre, DualJet DualVVT, petrol-CNG mill that also powers the Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara. It churns out 86.7 bhp and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode.
The Brezza CNG claims a fuel efficiency of 25.51 km/kg and is only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The new model is available in three variants: LXi, VXi and ZXi, with prices ranging between Rs 9.24 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Offered in mid-spec Delta and Zeta variants, the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG is powered by the 1.5-litre, DualJet DualVVT, petrol-CNG motor, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This is the same powertrain that also powers the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, but it offers a slightly higher fuel efficiency of 26.6 kmpl. However, engine output remains similar to the Brezza.
The Grand Vitara CNG is offered in 2 variants: Delta and Zeta priced between Rs 13.05 lakh and 14.86 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of equipment, the Grand Vitara CNG comes loaded with LED projector headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, engine start/stop, cruise control, Arkamys tuned sound system, auto climate control, rear air-con vents, up to six airbags, and reverse parking camera.

Being a cross-badged version of the Grand Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder shares its powertrain and features list with its Suzuki counterpart. However, minor cosmetic changes have been made to give it a distinct identity.
Toyota offers the Hyryder CNG in mid-spec S and G trims, priced at Rs 13.43 lakh and Rs 15.31 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. This makes it up to Rs 45,000 more expensive than its donor version. For this added premium, it gets a standard warranty of 3 years/1 lakh kilometres, whereas the Grand Vitara CNG comes with a standard warranty of 2 years / 40,000 kilometres (whichever occurs earlier).
With the recent influx in the CNG segment, the Tata Punch, Nexon, Kia Sonet, Carens and Hyundai i20 are also expected to receive CNG powertrains in the near future.
