Maruti Suzuki has launched the much-awaited new generation Swift hatchback in the country. Equipped with modern features and a more fuel efficient engine, the new Swift will become more desirable among budget conscious buyers in the country. The hatchback directly rivals the likes of the Tata Tiago and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. In this article we compare the new Swift with the Tiago on the basis of pricing, features and specifications.

New Maruti Swift Vs Tata Tiago Price Comparison

- The new Swift hatchback is available in 4 trim levels - LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+ - and in total of 11 variants. It is only offered in petrol guise with manual and AMT gearbox options. 

- The petrol manual range starts at Rs 6.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.15 lakh for the top-end variant. The AMT gearbox is offered with VXi trim onwards. The AMT range is available in the price bracket of Rs 7.80 lakh to Rs 9.65 lakh (ex-showroom). 

- The Tiago hatchback is available in 4 trim levels - XE, XM, XT and XZ Plus. The hatchback is offered with manual and AMT gearbox options. In fact, all the trim levels are also available with CNG fuel option. 

- The base Tiago XE is priced at Rs 5.65 lakh, while the top-spec Tiago XZA Plus DT AMT CNG variant is tagged at Rs 8.90 lakh. 

- Maruti Suzuki is known for offering cars with low maintenance cost and longer life compared to most of its rivals. In fact, the resale value of several Maruti cars including Swift hatchback is significantly higher than other brand cars in our market. 

Swift Vs Tiago Engine Specifications

- The new Swift is powered by an all-new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder, Z-Series naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is already offered in the global-spec new Swift. This engine churns out 81bhp of power and 111.7Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT unit.

- The Tiago hatchback is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 84.48bhp at 6,000rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 3,300rpm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. It also gets an AMT gearbox option. 

- It also comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The hatchback features dual-cylinder set-up for the CNG kit, which allows Tata to create smart space in the boot. In the CNG mode, the power and torque drops to 72.41bhp at 6,000rpm and 95Nm at 3500rpm, respectively. 

- The Tiago is the only car in the segment to come with manual and AMT gearbox options. 

Swift Vs Tiago Mileage

- Compared to the previous model, the 4th gen Swift offers 10% higher fuel efficiency with manual gearbox & 14% higher with AMT gearbox

- the Tiago petrol manual version is claimed to offer a fuel efficiency of 20.09kmpl, while the AMT version returns 19kmpl. 

- On the other hand, the Tiago CNG returns an ARAI certified fuel economy of 26.49km/kg. The fuel efficiency increases to 28.06Km/Kg with AMT gearbox.

Key Features

The new-gen Suzuki Swift shares the cabin with the Baleno & Fronx. It is equipped with features like 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, LED lighting system, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, cruise control and others. 

In terms of features, the Tata Motors Tiago comes equipped with automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, LED daytime running lamps, automatic AC, powered ORVMs, LED turn indicators, semi-digital instrument console, fully adjustable headrests, cooled glove box and push button start with keyless entry. 

It is fitted with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. The hatchback rides on 15-inch alloy wheels. Lower variants get steel wheels. 

Safety Features

For safety and security, the Tiago gets ABS + EBD with corner stability control, front fog lamps, rear defogger, dual front airbags, 3-point ELR seat belt, follow-me-home lamps and tyre pressure monitoring system or TPMS. 

The new Swift comes fitted with 6 airbags and 3-point seat belt for all seats as standard. Other features includes ABS with EBD, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), rear view camera, rear parking sensors and hill hold assist.
