Maruti YMC and YDB, Hyundai Stargazer, and Nissan Triber coming soon MPVs held 10 percent of India’s car market in FY2025 Launches expected between 2026 and 2027
SUVs may rule the Indian roads, but MPVs are still a favorite for families looking for space and practicality. In FY2025, MPVs made up around 10% of car sales in India, and with road trips becoming more popular, the demand for these family-friendly vehicles is growing.
Here’s a look at four upcoming MPVs set to launch in India by 2027.
Nissan is making a second attempt in the MPV segment after the Evalia failed in India. The new MPV will be a rebadged Renault Triber, smaller and more affordable. Road testing is already underway, with a launch expected in February 2026. The Triber will focus on practicality, offering a compact size suitable for city and highway driving, making it ideal for small families.
With these four new MPVs, Indian families will soon have more options in the practical and versatile segment, including electric, hybrid, and compact models. The MPV segment could see a revival as these vehicles hit the market over the next few years.

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch its first electric MPV, codenamed YMC, expected in September 2026. Designed to rival the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the YMC will come with two battery options, 49 kWh and 61 kWh, offering 142 hp and 172 hp, respectively. The top variant could deliver a range of up to 475 km. A Toyota-badged version is also expected to hit the market a few months later, giving buyers another choice in the electric MPV segment.
In 2027, Maruti Suzuki will also enter the sub-4 metre MPV segment with the YDB. Based on the Japanese Suzuki Solio, this compact MPV is perfect for city driving while still offering practical space for families. It is likely to come with the 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine and a series-hybrid system, giving buyers options between conventional and hybrid power. The YDB is aimed at families who want a small yet versatile MPV.
After years of planning, Hyundai is bringing a new MPV to India. The Stargazer is expected to arrive around 2027 and will rival the Maruti Ertiga. This MPV will feature Hyundai’s latest design, modern safety features, and advanced connectivity. Built on the same platform as the next-gen Creta, the Stargazer promises a comfortable and stylish option for Indian families.
