The upcoming Mahindra XUV700 facelift is one of the most awaited SUV launches in India. While the XUV700 facelift launch date is expected to be sometime in 2025, reports suggest that Mahindra is also working on introducing a hybrid powertrain for its popular SUV.
Let’s take a closer look at all the Mahindra XUV700 facelift details known so far.
The XUV700 facelift 2025 is likely to come with a refreshed design, updated features, and some new technology. However, under the hood, the SUV is expected to continue with the same engine options currently available in the XUV700.
That means the new model will continue to use the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 197 bhp and 380 Nm, and the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers up to 182 bhp and 450 Nm. Both engines will likely come with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.

Although the facelift version will initially use the same engine lineup, Mahindra is reportedly developing a strong hybrid powertrain that could debut around 2026. This system is expected to first appear in the facelifted XUV700, making it one of the most advanced SUVs in its class.
The Mahindra XUV700 facelift hybrid could use a self-charging strong-hybrid setup, featuring a small electric battery that recharges through regenerative braking or the internal combustion engine. This setup would allow the SUV to run on electric power alone for a short distance while improving overall fuel efficiency.
Mahindra has already started working on hybrid technology as part of its plan to make future SUVs more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. According to reports, Mahindra’s upcoming 2.0-litre turbo-petrol hybrid system could offer:
- Improved fuel economy: Expected mileage could go up to 25 kmpl in city driving.
- Better performance: Total system power may exceed the current 197 bhp output.
- Cost-effectiveness: The hybrid system is being developed in-house by Mahindra to keep costs competitive.
Interestingly, this petrol-hybrid powertrain could also be shared with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, as the brands are reportedly exploring a joint venture for technology sharing.
The decision to develop a Mahindra XUV700 facelift hybrid could be driven by rising demand for fuel-efficient SUVs and the growing popularity of hybrid vehicles in India. With rivals like the Toyota Innova Hycross already offering hybrid options, Mahindra may be preparing to strengthen its position in the premium SUV space.
By combining power and efficiency, the Mahindra XUV700 facelift could appeal to both performance-focused and eco-conscious buyers once the hybrid version arrives.
The XUV700 facelift launch date is expected to fall sometime in 2025, with the hybrid version likely to follow in 2026. Initially, Mahindra may launch the facelifted version with updated design elements, new features, and the same engine options, before introducing the strong-hybrid variant later.
