JSW to launch Combat SUV this festive season It is expected to be priced between Rs 30 lakh and 50 lakh
JSW Motors, the automotive division of the JSW Group, is set to enter the Indian passenger vehicle market as an independent automotive brand this year. The company's first model will be an all-new SUV, christened the "Combat." JSW Motors is reportedly to introduce 4 NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) in the country by 2027.
The upcoming JSW Combat will be a five-seater plug-in hybrid SUV (PHEV), and is based on the global Chery Jetour T2. It is likely to be launched in the Indian market during the festive season, around Diwali. The report claims that the SUV could be priced somewhere around Rs 30 lakh - 50 lakh. The SUV could be introduced as an alternative to the likes of the Honda ZR-V hybrid, Jeep Compass/Meridian and the Toyota Fortuner.
The JSW Combat will retain the muscular silhouette of the Jetour T2 PHEV, however, the SUV will receive India-specific changes. The SUV will get a squared-off front, featuring squarish LED headlamps, heavy body cladding, chunky bumpers and JSW badging. The SUV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. Other design highlights will include robust roof rails, vertical LED tail-lamps, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
The JSW Combat will have a minimalist interior design with premium features. The dashboard is dominated by a large 15.6-inch central touchscreen infotainment unit and a 10.6-inch digital driver display. In terms of features, the SUV will have panoramic sunroof, 12-speaker audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, 540-degree camera system and an ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control.
The Combat will be powered by a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine mated to two electric motors and an 18.4 kWh battery pack. The engine offers a combined power and torque output of 360 hp and 610 Nm of torque, routed via a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. The India-spec model is expected to be offered in front-wheel-drive configuration; however, an AWD version could also join the lineup.
The plug-in hybrid SUV offers an all-electric range of up to 90 km (NEDC) and a combined range of around 1200km. Using a 50 kW DC fast charger, the battery can achieve 30% to 80% charging status in around 27 minutes. On the other hand, the battery can fully charge using a 6.6 kW AC charger in 3 hours.
