Great news for SUV enthusiasts in India! Ford is planning to bring back its popular premium SUV, the Endeavour, to the Indian market. According to a recent media report, the company has filed a design patent for the new version of the Endeavour in the country.
It was in 2003 that Ford India for the first time offered the Endeavour as a premium offering. So much so that after 18 years, the company chose to discontinue it despite its high popularity. This was mainly due to the brand's overall performance which was leading them to losses despite having a potent product portfolio. Further keeping Indian customer sentiment in mind, American manufacturers have never caught their imagination.
There are indications that Ford plans to manufacture the Endeavour at its Chennai plant. This decision comes after the company called off its earlier plans to sell the factory to the JSW (Jindal South West) Group. There is also talk about the possibility of importing the initial batch of SUVs as Completely Built Units (CBUs) while the assembly line is being set up. If all goes well, we might witness Endeavour hitting the Indian market by 2025.
Built on ladder-frame architecture (the same as the Ford Ranger pickup's platform), the Endeavour will share a few design elements with the former SUV. The leaked Endeavour design patent suggests that the vehicle will boast a sturdy front end showcasing LED headlights and unique C-shaped LED DRLs. Inside, it is expected to provide a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster.
Furthermore, safety will be a priority, with advanced features like Lane Keep Assist, Pre-Collision Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Hand-Free Parking, and Intersection Assist among others.
All in all, the Endeavour will be a perfect blend of style, technology, and safety to deliver a well-rounded driving experience.
The current generation of the Ford Endeavour in global markets packs a punch under the hood with a 2.0-litre diesel mill in two tune options (single-turbo and twin-turbo) alongside a strong 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel unit. As for the transmission choices, you can select between a 6-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic gearbox. It is yet to be revealed which powertrain option is likely to hit Indian shores.
