Maruti Suzuki to Launch 4 EVs in India - Electric MPV in 2027

Maruti Suzuki to launch YMC electric MPV in 2027 An entry-level electric hatch is also under development.

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed to launch four new electric vehicles in the Indian market by 2031. Speaking at an event in Hyderabad, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, MSIL said that the company is committed to providing cleaner mobility solutions and will expand its EV portfolio in the coming years. At the event, Maruti Suzuki delivered 108 units of the e Vitara to customers in a single day.

The e Vitara is produced exclusively at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, and has already crossed 25,000 units in exports. To further boost its EV sales, Maruti Suzuki is planning to establish over one lakh public charging points across India by 2030. The company has already set up more than 2000 dedicated charging points. The company will next launch an electric MPV, internally codenamed YMC.

Maruti YMC electric MPV

The company is reportedly working on a subcompact electric MPV, codenamed YMC, which is rumoured to be launched in 2027. This electric MPV is expected to be based on the eHEARTECT platform that also underpins the e Vitara. The eHEARTECT is a scalable platform and can be changed for differently sized vehicles. It is expected to share powertrains with the electric SUV, which is offered with 40kWh and 61kWh battery pack options.

The company is also developing an entry-level electric hatchback, codenamed Y2V. If reports are to be believed, the electric hatch could launch by 2028. This electric hatchback is expected to be positioned against the likes of the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3 and the Tata Punch EV. It will be designed and developed locally, and expected to carry aggressive pricing. It is expected that the new electric hatchback will be based on the Suzuki eWX concept.

Other details

Previous media reports claim that the company could utilise the ICE-turned EV platforms to introduce the Fronx EV and Brezza EV by 2031. The company is also working on an affordable strong hybrid engine, which will debut with the Fronx facelift in 2027. The Fronx hybrid is expected to offer a fuel efficiency of around 35-40kmpl.
