According to the homegrown manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki Fronx has become a big hit in India. It has sold 1 lakh units in just 10 months since its launch. Despite the already robust sales, Maruti Suzuki is strategically planning a variant line-up overhaul to further boost numbers with a particular focus on the turbo version.
At present, the Fronx comes with three engine options. These include a 1.2-litre petrol, a bi-fuel CNG option, and a 1.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol (GDI) unit. As per the data shared by the brand, the turbo version only makes up 7 percent of the total sales, while the CNG version stands at 16 percent. The remaining majority of sales comes from the petrol trims.
Taking this into account, the automaker is planning to refresh the turbo Fronx variant lineup to attract more buyers and stay ahead in the competitive market.
Shashank Srivastava, Maruti’s Senior Executive Officer of Marketing and Sales has pointed out that some customers might be concerned about the price of the turbo variants of Fronx. Even though they come with many attractive features, these turbo models cost more than the trims with the regular 1.2-litre petrol engine.
He further acknowledged that not all customers who like the turbo engine are interested in certain high-end features, such as a head-up display or a 360-degree-view camera. Thus, the company is thinking about introducing lower-spec versions of the turbo Fronx to make it more affordable.
Although there is no specific timeline for the launch of a more budget-friendly Fronx with a turbo engine, the company is actively studying the market and reconsidering its variant strategy.
