Ford Europe is all set to take the next step in transforming its business and product lineup in response to changing market dynamics. A major upgrade will come in the form of the revival of the EcoSport brand with a generational change in mid-2025. The all-new Ford EcoSport will be introduced as a rival to the new-gen Duster and Citroën C3 Aircross. Comprehensive changes are expected to be made to the compact SUV. Let’s take a look at what we can anticipate.
The first notable aspect is its appearance. The 2026 Ford EcoSport is likely to grow in length, measuring over 4.3 meters. The exact figure is not known yet. The SUV’s main rivals, the Duster and C3 Aircross, are 4,343 mm and 4,323 mm long, respectively. With an increased length, the compact SUV is expected to offer more cabin space.
The design will also be completely revamped. While official details are unavailable, the new EcoSport is expected to feature a redesigned front grille, more pronounced front and rear bumpers, and sharper LED headlamps with DRLs at the front. The side profile could be enhanced with dual-tone alloy wheels, blacked-out pillars, body-colored door handles, and roof rails. The rear section will also be updated. Ford might introduce new color schemes to the model lineup.
The interior will also undergo significant changes. This time, a panoramic sunroof might be offered with the higher trims, while the lower variants will continue to feature a single-pane sunroof. Considering the growing popularity of the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite, Ford may equip the new EcoSport with this feature. The feature kit could also include a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and more.
Globally, the new Ford EcoSport is expected to be offered with multiple powertrain options. In Europe, the compact SUV could get the popular 1.0L 3-cylinder EcoBoost mild-hybrid setup and a pure electric powertrain.
The EcoSport was first launched in India in 2013. It was the country’s first compact SUV offering and was available with three engine options. It became an instant hit, but its sales started declining by 2018-2019 with the arrival of competitors like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Tata Nexon. The compact SUV received two major facelifts (in 2017 and 2021) during its entire lifespan in India. However, the Ford EcoSport was discontinued in September 2021 due to poor sales and sustained losses. As of now, there are no concrete plans for this SUV to make a comeback in India.
