Peugeot, the French automaker has had its share of presence in the Indian automobile industry in the past. However at present the company does not have a standing but still their vehicles have been spotted undergoing testing before on Indian roads a few times, particularly the Peugeot 2008. Recently, the larger 3008 SUV was also spied testing in the country, hinting at its debut on Indian roads.
Spotted in Pune, this SUV represents an updated iteration of its predecessor. It will be based on the EMP2 platform with other Stellantis models like the Citroen C5 Aircross.
Globally, the Peugeot 3008 offers a wide range of powertrain options. These include a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engines, as well as self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants with outputs of up to 300 bhp. Furthermore, the top-tier trim offers an advanced AWD system, to enhance traction and control on various type of terrains.
As of now, Stellantis, the parent company of Peugeot, has not officially disclosed any plans to introduce the 3008 SUV in India. However, its appearance on Indian roads indicates strategic testing and benchmarking activities. Local manufacturers may also leverage Peugeot's SUV to assess performance and features.
The Stellantis Group regards India as a challenging yet strategically vital market. Through investments in electric vehicle initiatives and the development of new models under brands like Citroen and Jeep, the company aims to establish a strong presence in India's evolving automotive landscape.
