The hugely popular Toyota Fortuner is set to enter the new generation with a full model overhaul, marking its most comprehensive generation change in years. The next-gen Fortuner is currently undergoing testing, and the spied prototype reveals significant changes, advanced driver assistance features, and electrified powertrains. These changes are aimed to further solidify Fortuner's position in the full-size ladder-frame SUV segment.
The next-gen Fortuner is expected to make its global debut later in the year, with an official Indian launch expected in early 2027. With the extensive safety and tech updates, we expect the new Fortuner prices to witness a marginal to significant rise, depending on the variant.
Global Reveal - Expected in late 2026
India Launch - Early 2027
Expected Price Range - Rs 38 lakh - Rs 54 lakh
Competition - Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster and Kia Sorento
Powertrain Tech - the new Fortuner will be powered by the proven 2.8-litre turbo-charged diesel engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid technology to improve fuel efficiency and lower emissions. This engine produces 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. A 4WD (four-wheel drive) system will continue to be offered on select variants.
Interior & Displays - the new Fortuner will come with an all-new cabin with soft-touch materials on dashboard and door trims, leatherette seats and modern tech. It will have twin 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and digital instrument console, wireless phone connectivity, wireless phone charging pad, ventilated and powered front seats, panoramic sunroof and others.
Safety & ADAS - the SUV will also receive LEVEL 2 ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high beam, front parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround view camera.
Hilux-inspired Design - the SUV will retain its muscular proportions and rugged SUV silhouette; however, it will have a more upright stance, a wider front fascia and a flatter bonnet. The front fascia is likely to get split headlamp setup, slim LED DRLs, a larger grille and tweaked bumper with integrated fog lamps. It is expected to get a more squared-off rear profile with slimmer wraparound taillamps and a revised bumper.
Ladder-Frame Chassis - the all-new Fortuner is expected to share the new IMV ladder-frame chassis with the new Hilux lifestyle pickup.
The Japanese automaker is likely to keep the core mechanical layout intact to maintain off-road reliability.
2.8L turbo diesel + 48V mild-hybrid setup: this engine produces 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The 48V mild-hybrid system assists during accelerations, and improves efficiency in stop-and-go traffic.
2.7L NA petrol: this engine churns out 164 bhp and 245 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to the rear-wheels.
Drivetrain Options: 6-speed MT and 6-speed torque converter automatic, electric power steering, 4x4 drivetrain (Diesel Only), terrain modes and rear-differential lock.
