Over the years, Tata Motors has solidified its position as one of the largest car manufacturers in India, engaging in robust competition with the South Korean car brand, Hyundai, for the title of selling the most cars after Maruti Suzuki in the country. The year 2023 marked a dynamic phase for the homegrown manufacturer witnessing the launch of futuristic models such as the All-New Tata Nexon, Nexon EV, Harrier, and the premium SUV Safari.
Undeterred by the challenges, the company is maintaining its momentum, with strategic plans for the upcoming year. In addition to its lineup of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, the manufacturer is set to expand its product portfolio with the introduction of two new electric vehicles (EVs).
Here is a comprehensive list of the upcoming SUVs scheduled to be launched next year:
Tata Harrier EV
To align with the electric vehicle (EV) era and to uphold its prominent position in the market, Tata Motors is set to electrify its compact SUV, the Harrier, a consistent top-seller in the company's extensive product portfolio. The forthcoming electrified version is anticipated to incorporate a range of electric powertrains, promising an impressive claimed maximum range surpassing 500 km and the availability of an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option.
The Harrier EV's design aesthetics will remain true to its predecessor, featuring bold and robust design elements, a commanding muscular stance, and sleek lines that will continue to captivate attention on the road. On the feature front, the Harrier EV is said to be loaded up to the brim with equipment such as an electric tailgate, LED headlights, steering with the illuminated Tata logo, ventilated seats, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology, 10.25-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, 60:40 rear split seat, a premium sound system, a 360-degree camera and so on.
The expected (ex-showroom) price for Harrier EV is reportedly to be in the range of Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. Moreover, the SUV is expected to be launched during the festive season in 2024.
Tata Punch EV
Next in line would be the Tata Punch EV, positioned to spearhead the carmaker's series of new releases. According to rumours, the Punch electric micro SUV is set to make its debut early in 2024, with January being a probable launch month. The upcoming Punch EV is expected to draw considerable inspiration from the redesigned Nexon, presenting a refreshed aesthetic coupled with premium features. It is speculated that Tata Motors will introduce multiple battery and motor options for the Punch EV, aiming to cater to a diverse audience.
While specific technical details and battery range remain undisclosed, given its positioning between the Tiago EV and the Tigor EV, an estimated range of approximately 300-350 kms is anticipated. The projected starting price for the Tata Punch EV is expected to be around Rs 11 lakh – Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tata Curvv
Until now, the SUV coupe format was exclusively associated with premium brands, and its absence as a mass-production vehicle under the Rs 20 lakh price bracket in India was conspicuous. However, the manufacturer aims to rectify this with the introduction of the Curvv, pioneering a new segment within this accessible price range. Aesthetically, the coupe takes design cues from premium coupe SUVs by renowned brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW. Featuring a futuristic and sharp design language, it stands out with its coupe-like sloping roofline.
The homegrown manufacturer has scheduled the launch of the Curvv around mid-2024, and it is anticipated to be accompanied by an internal combustion engine (ICE) variant after a few months. The ICE iteration is rumoured to be equipped with a newly developed 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.2-litre TGDI power plant. Reports also suggest that the vehicle will come generously equipped with cutting-edge features, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology, and a futuristic design.
