2027 Audi Q5 - New Platform, 2.0-Litre Engine and Quattro AWD Explained

New Audi Q5 will use the Premium Platform Combustion architecture. India-spec SUV is expected to get a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Quattro all-wheel drive and a new tech-loaded cabin are expected.

The next-generation Audi Q5 will be based on Audi's Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture. The new platform also underpins the latest Audi A5 and has been developed to support the brand's newer generation of petrol and electrified powertrains. The move to the new platform is expected to bring improvements in technology, efficiency and driving dynamics.

2.0-Litre Turbo-Petrol Engine for India

For the Indian market, the new Audi Q5 is expected to use a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The engine is expected to produce around 265 hp and will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system is also expected to be offered. This setup should give the Q5 better traction and stability, particularly when driving on wet or slippery roads. The combination of a turbo-petrol engine, automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive will also help the Q5 compete with other performance-focused luxury SUVs in its segment.

New Audi Q5 Gets Sharper Design

The new Q5 will get a more aggressive exterior compared with the outgoing model. The SUV features sharper lines, updated LED lighting signatures and a sportier stance. Audi has also used active aerodynamic elements to improve airflow around the vehicle. The overall design remains recognisable as a Q5, but the new model has a more modern appearance that brings it closer to Audi's latest design language.

Bigger Screens Inside the Cabin

The biggest changes are expected inside the cabin. The new Audi Q5 gets a curved digital display setup consisting of an 11.9-inch digital driver's display and a 14.5-inch central touchscreen. An additional display for the front passenger is also expected to be available as an option. The new dashboard layout gives the Q5 a more modern and technology-focused cabin compared with the current model.

Audi Q5 to Rival BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC

Once launched in India, the new Q5 will continue to compete in the premium mid-size luxury SUV segment. Its main rivals will include the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. The Q5 will have to compete on design, cabin technology, performance and comfort. Local assembly could also help Audi position the new model more competitively in terms of pricing.

Expected India Price and Launch

The next-generation Audi Q5 is expected to be locally assembled in India, which could help keep costs under control. The SUV is expected to launch around October 2027, with an estimated starting price of around Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom). Audi is expected to reveal the final specifications, variants and pricing closer to the India launch.

Audi's Bigger SUV Plan for India

The new Q5 is part of Audi India's wider product plan for the coming years. The company is preparing several new SUVs and electric models for the Indian market. The next-generation Q3 is expected to arrive before the Q5, while the Q6 e-tron and next-generation Q7 are also planned for India in 2027. For Audi, the new Q5 will be particularly important as it competes in one of the most popular segments of the luxury SUV market.
