2027 Hyundai Tucson - New Design, Hybrid Engines and 17-Inch Screen

The fifth-generation Tucson will move away from the curvy design of the current model. Hyundai is now using its new ‘Art of Steel’ design language, which gives the SUV a sharper and more upright look. A recent spy shot of the interior display has also given a better idea of the front-end design.

The new Tucson is expected to get a tall front fascia, a clamshell bonnet and sharp body lines. The LED daytime running lights could be placed vertically, while a slim LED strip is expected to connect them and create an H-shaped lighting design. The overall design appears to take inspiration from newer Hyundai SUVs such as the Santa Fe and Palisade.

New Tucson Gets Boxier Body

The changes will not be limited to the front. The new Tucson is expected to feature squared-off wheel arches, new alloy wheels and fresh body cladding. The ORVMs will also get a new dual-tone design. The current Tucson has a more rounded body, while the next-generation model will use sharper lines and more geometric panels. The roof is also expected to have a flatter profile, giving the SUV a stronger and more upright stance.

17-Inch Screen Expected Inside

The cabin of the new Tucson is set to get a major technology upgrade. Hyundai is expected to introduce its Pleos software and hardware system, which will bring a large 17-inch central touchscreen.

The touchscreen is expected to use an Android-based system and will control several vehicle functions. A smaller 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster will also be offered to display information such as speed and navigation. Despite the bigger focus on screens, Hyundai is expected to keep physical buttons and knobs for important functions such as the air conditioning and audio controls.

AI Assistant and Advanced ADAS

The new Tucson could also get Hyundai's Gleo AI assistant, which will allow drivers to use natural language commands to access different functions. This could make it easier to operate certain features without taking attention away from the road. The SUV is also expected to get Level 2.5 autonomous driving technology, taking its driver assistance features further than the current model.

Hybrid Engines To Be A Major Focus

Hyundai is expected to put greater focus on hybrid technology with the new Tucson. The SUV could be offered with both strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. These systems are expected to use Hyundai's next-generation TMED-II Hybrid architecture.

The strong hybrid version could use a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and battery pack. The PHEV version is expected to get a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor. It could offer an electric-only range of around 100 km.

Tucson Could Also Get a 300+ HP N Version

Hyundai is also said to be working on a performance-focused Tucson N variant. If introduced, the Tucson N could get a turbo-hybrid powertrain producing more than 300 hp. An all-wheel-drive system could also be part of the package. For India, the current 2.0-litre diesel engine is likely to be discontinued as Hyundai shifts its focus towards hybrid technology.

Rugged XRT Pro Version Also Coming

Hyundai has also been testing an XRT Pro version of the new Tucson. This version is expected to have a more rugged appearance and hardware designed for off-road use. Earlier test vehicles were spotted with increased ground clearance and a raised suspension setup. It could also get red tow hooks, stronger roof rails and Continental CrossContact all-terrain tyres.

2027 Hyundai Tucson India Launch

The new-generation Hyundai Tucson is expected to make its global debut later this year, followed by its India launch in 2027. With its sharper design, larger touchscreen, new hybrid powertrains and advanced driver assistance technology, the new Tucson will be a major upgrade over the current model.
