A great news for Pajero lovers! Mitsubishi is reportedly planning to revive the hugely successful Pajero off-road SUV. According to the Japanese media, the next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero will be re-launched in 2026. This suggests that the next model could be a Triton-based SUV or a PHEV model based on the Outlander.
Previous media reports reveal that the next-generation Mitsubishi Pajero would be based on the next-gen Outlander PHEV, which is likely to be released in 2026. It was earlier planned to be based on a ladder-frame pickup truck platform, which also underpins the Triton. However, the plan was cancelled as it did not meet the parameters required for the Pajero SUV.
It was reported that the next-gen Pajero will be based on a full monocoque platform along with a 4WD layout. The SUV will be developed to offer great drive experience on city roads or highways. The company aims to position the new Pajero as a luxury SUV. It will be in-line with Mitsubishi's vision for the future.
Second theory is that the company has started working on the new Triton pick-up. In fact, the Triton with SUV body has been caught testing on foreign soil. This suggests that the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero will be based on the same platform that underpins the Triton. The new SUV will have advanced equipment and performance, an urban design with rugged styling elements, and a luxurious cabin.
The Triton's ladder frame chassis is claimed to have an increased bending rigidity by 60 and torsional rigidity by 40%. It will be powered by a newly developed 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 201bhp and 470Nm of torque. The SUV is also likely to receive an electric powertrain. Adding to it, the SUV will use Mitsubishi's new four-wheel-drive technology to offer better off-road capabilities.
