The upcoming Jeep Compass, codenamed J4U, is in the works and will arrive in India by 2026. Built on Stellantis' versatile STLA M platform, this iteration of the Compass promises to be a game-changer. A recent update reveals that the next generation of the SUV will feature an all-electric powertrain for the Indian market.
Let’s dig more!
The Stellantis STLA Medium platform is a versatile architecture designed for electrification. This platform accommodates internal combustion engine (ICE) setups and electric powertrains. Additionally, it supports both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations and offers flexibility in battery sizes, up to 98 kWh, resulting in a range of 700 kms.
An efficient 400-Volt electric architecture is a key feature, known for low energy consumption and rapid charging. With a 2.4kWh per minute charging rate, owners can recharge the vehicle from 20 to 80 percent in just 27 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum convenience. The platform also includes electric motors delivering a power output between 216 bhp and 384 bhp.
In addition to the electrification focus, the next-gen Jeep Compass is expected to provide traditional turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, offering consumers a comprehensive range of choices.
Apart from Jeep, Citroen is also planning to use the STLA Medium platform for its upcoming models in India. There is also speculation about Fiat's revival in India, utilizing the same STLA Medium platform for future model offerings.
