Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans to locally manufacture two of its popular SUVs in India. Both Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will now be built at JLR's plant in Pune, India. Deliveries of the locally-assembled Range Rover have started from today itself while the Range Rover Sport SUV will start delivering from August 16.
As of now, the Pune-based facility has been producing Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and the Jaguar F-Pace. Now, with the announcement of manufacturing two more Land Rover models, India becomes the first market to locally assemble Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.
The locally manufactured Range Rover Sport is available only with the Dynamic SE variant. It is either available with a 3.0-litre petrol engine or diesel unit. The price for both variants stands at Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom).
Talking about the Rang Rover SUV, it is offered with a 3.0-litre diesel LWB HSE and 3.0-litre petrol LWB Autobiography variants. Prices for both are Rs 2.36 crore and Rs 2.60 crore (ex-showroom), respectively.
These made-in-India Land Rover cars are up to Rs 56 lakh more affordable. However, it is not confirmed whether the automaker will introduce any new features on these locally assembled SUVs.
