Toyota Innova Crysta has been one of India’s most trusted MPVs for years. Launched globally in 2015 and introduced in India in 2016, the diesel MPV recently completed nearly a decade on sale. However, fresh reports now suggest that the Innova Crysta could be nearing the end of its road in India.

As of now, Toyota has not officially announced that the Innova Crysta is discontinued. However, according to industry reports, the diesel-only Innova Crysta is expected to be phased out by March 2027. If this happens, it will mark the end of a model that has dominated the MPV segment for almost two decades.
Toyota had originally planned to stop Innova Crysta production much earlier, possibly by 2025. But strong demand, especially from fleet operators, and supply issues with the newer Innova Hycross forced the company to extend its production cycle. This delay kept the Crysta on sale longer than expected.
One of the biggest reasons behind the possible discontinuation is India’s upcoming CAFE 3 emission norms. These stricter fuel efficiency and emission rules make it difficult for heavy, ladder-frame diesel vehicles like the Innova Crysta to comply. The higher carbon dioxide emissions of the diesel MPV put Toyota at a disadvantage under the new regulations.
At present, the Toyota Innova Crysta is available only with a 2.4-litre diesel engine paired with a manual gearbox. Earlier, the MPV was offered with petrol and automatic options as well, but these were discontinued after the launch of the Innova Hycross. Since then, the Crysta has mainly used to commercial and fleet buyers.
Although the diesel engine has been upgraded over the years to meet BS-VI Phase 2 norms, Toyota is not expected to invest further in updating this powertrain. This strongly suggests that the Innova Crysta is nearing the end of its lifecycle in India.
At the moment, there are no indications of a new-generation Innova Crysta in the works. Toyota’s focus has shifted to the Innova Hycross, which offers hybrid technology, better fuel efficiency, and lower emissions. This further reduces the chances of the Crysta continuing beyond the next few years.
