End of Innova Crysta Diesel by 2027, Affordable Hycross Hybrid Planned

Innova Crysta diesel may end by 2027 Affordable Hycross hybrid in development Toyota shifting focus to hybrid MPVs

Toyota is likely to discontinue the diesel-powered Toyota Innova Crysta in India by March 2027. The move is mainly due to upcoming CAFE 3 emission norms, which will require carmakers to improve overall fuel efficiency. Diesel-heavy models like the Innova Crysta may not fit easily into these stricter rules.

Hycross to Take the Lead

Once the Crysta is phased out, the Toyota Innova Hycross will become Toyota’s main MPV offering in India.

Both models have been sold together since 2022, but this strategy is expected to end as the company shifts focus towards petrol and hybrid technologies.

Affordable Hybrid Version in the Works

Toyota is planning a new, lower-spec version of the Innova Hycross hybrid.

This version will be designed to be more affordable by offering fewer features. The aim is to make it more practical for fleet operators who are currently dependent on the diesel-powered Crysta.

Why the Crysta Is Still Popular

The Innova Crysta continues to be a top choice for fleet buyers.

It offers a strong diesel engine, good fuel efficiency, and a rugged build.

Combined with Toyota’s reputation for reliability, it has remained a go-to MPV for long-distance and commercial use.

The Hycross Dilemma

The Innova Hycross is available with petrol and strong hybrid options.

The petrol version is more affordable upfront but delivers lower mileage, which is not ideal for fleet usage. On the other hand, the hybrid version offers better fuel efficiency but comes at a much higher price.

This gap between upfront cost and running cost has made it difficult for many buyers to switch from the Crysta.

New Version Could Solve the Problem

The upcoming lower-spec hybrid could help solve this issue.

By reducing features and lowering the starting price, Toyota aims to strike a balance between affordability and fuel efficiency. This could make the Hycross more appealing to fleet buyers.

Toyota’s Bigger Strategy

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is also planning to expand its lineup in India with new SUVs and MPVs.

The company is investing heavily in the country and focusing more on hybrid and electric vehicles. This shift shows Toyota’s long-term strategy to meet future emission norms while keeping its strong presence in key segments.
