Hyundai Motor India has confirmed the Bayon CNG will launch in January 2027. It will come as a more economical alternative to the petrol-powered version, targeting buyers with high daily commuting. The upcoming Hyundai Bayon CNG will feature a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an underbody CNG tank.
The petrol-powered Bayon delivers a maximum power of 115PS and 144Nm of torque. However, the output figures of the CNG version are expected to be slightly lower. The petrol version is available with a 6-speed manual and an iVT automatic gearbox. As per media reports, Hyundai will introduce the Bayon CNG with a six-speed manual gearbox. However, it remains to be seen whether the company will also offer an automatic CNG variant.

The petrol Bayon offers a claimed mileage of 18.6kmpl with the iVT automatic transmission. The figure cannot be directly compared with the CNG version as the CNG efficiency is measured in kilometres per kilogram, whereas CNG efficiency is measured in kilometres per litre (km/kg).
The upcoming Hyundai Bayon CNG is expected to look identical to its petrol counterpart. It will continue to feature signature LED DRLs, a sculpted bonnet, alloy wheels, LED rear lighting and a raised crossover-ish stance. The petrol model offers a boot space of 505-litres. With an underbody mounted CNG tank, the luggage capacity is likely to remain unchanged. However, it remains to be seen whether Hyundai will retain the spare wheel and how it will be accomodated.
Inside, the SUV will feature a dual screen setup on higher variants along with wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, automatic climate control, connected car tech, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a premium audio system. The safety package of the CNG version is expected to be similar to its petrol counterpart, although the final feature list is yet to be revealed.
As of now, there is no clarity whether Hyundai will offer CNG on lower and mid-spec variants or reserved it to select higher trims. The lower CNG variants could offer better value and fuel saving, while the higher trims would offer additional advanced technology and comfort features.
Hyundai will announce prices of the Bayon CNG in January 2027. The petrol lineup is currently available at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the CNG variants are expected to command a premium of nearly Rs 1 lakh over their petrol counterparts.
The Bayon CNG could be an attractive highly fuel-efficient option for buyers. However, the actual financial benefits will depend on the final pricing, mileage figures and local CNG fuel prices. Upon launch, the Bayon CNG will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG.
The Hyundai Bayon CNG is a worth waiting for buyers who prioritize lower running costs and have easy access to CNG fuel stations. It could offer a more affordable alternative to the petrol-powered Bayon. However, the CNG power figure, boot capacity, mileage and final prices are yet to be announced. If you want an SUV with an automatic gearbox or need to purchase a vehicle immediately, the petrol-powered Bayon would be a straightforward choice.
