Mahindra Scorpio N is a go-anywhere body-on-frame SUV manufactured by the Indian automaker, Mahindra & Mahindra. It is the second generation model under the iconic Scorpio nameplate. Since its launch, the new generation model has gained a strong fan following among Indian customers selling over 70,000 examples.
Take a look at the journey of Mahindra Scorpio in the Indian market.
The Mahindra Scorpio is a popular SUV which was first introduced in 2002. Since then it has become one of Mahindra's most successful and iconic models. Over the years, the Scorpio has undergone several updates and iterations to provide better performance and technology to its fans.
The journey of the all-new Scorpio started in the late 1990s when Mahindra observed the growing demand for SUVs in the Indian market. Later in 1996, the company aimed to manufacture a powerful and rugged vehicle that could handle both on-road and off-road conditions while providing comfort and convenience to the passengers.

In June 2002, Mahindra launched its first new Scorpio model powered by a 2.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine. It featured a distinctive design characterized by its muscular and aggressive stance, which resonated with buyers seeking a bold and macho SUV. Besides, the SUV provided a spacious interior with comfortable seating and a range of modern features for its customers.
Soon after its success, Mahindra Cars made several changes to the four-wheeler to enhance its safety, performance, and overall appeal.
In 2006, the Scorpio received a huge update. The company re-tuned the engine to make it more powerful in terms of performance. Besides, it got steering mounted controls, a MID, two airbags, and more features. It was the first time when Mahindra offered the automatic gearbox alongside a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Another cosmetic update for Scorpio took place in 2009. Mahindra tried to make its SUV look as modern as it could by working on the design elements. In addition, the SUV got new alloy wheels. This was the time when the Scorpio fanbase started increasing rapidly.

Later in 2014, Mahindra Scorpio came equipped with a powerful 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Not just the powertrain, the automaker also made changes to the ladder-on-frame chassis. Moreover, the vehicle received a host of exterior and interior updates, including automatic wipers & headlamps, a touchscreen infotainment system, and automatic climate control. The 2017 update for the Scorpio featured redesigned front and rear profile with the new dashboard.
Since 2002, Mahindra has continued to refine the Scorpio, focusing on improving its safety features, technology, and overall driving experience. The new generation of Scorpio was introduced in June 2022. The SUV carried the "N" badge along with its name; hence, called Scorpio N. The 2023 Scorpio N is the more good-looking, luxurious and powerful version of the old Scorpio. The interesting fact is that even after launching the second-generation Scorpio, Mahindra did not discontinue the old Scorpio; the original Scorpio still remains on sale alongside the new version.

In terms of design and looks, the Scorpio N showcases a bold new design. Upfront, the SUV features the brand's signature 6-slat grille, flanked by LED headlamp units and covered by the robust bonnet. The side profile features muscular lines and scorpion-inspired design elements on the window belt line. Besides, the SUV rides on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. For the rear profile, Mahindra has highlighted the vertically stacked tail lamps, horizontal swivelling tailgate, and a reprofiled bumper. All in all, the automaker has upgraded its Scorpio from every angle just to provide a better look and feel.

Moving on to the interiors, Mahindra has offered a perfect blend of elegance, sophistication, and functionality for interior design. It gets a large cabin with a dual-tone theme that enhances its overall feel on the inside.

The dashboard is thoughtfully laid out, with intuitive controls and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that seamlessly integrates with the car's advanced technology features. Further, the SUV offers dual-zone climate control, cruise control, front & rear cameras, a wireless phone charger, and more features.
As for safety concerns, the Scorpio N comes equipped with an extensive array of advanced safety features. Some of these features include ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Hill-Assist Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and six airbags.

The new Scorpio offers improved performance and efficiency with its upgraded engine options. Powered by two engine choices, users get more power and better fuel economy compared to the older model. The 2.0-litre petrol can produce 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque while its 2.2-litre mHawk diesel option can deliver two states of tune; 130 bhp with 300 Nm and 172 bhp with 379 Nm.
Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. Moreover, the Scorpio N features rear-wheel drive as standard while the diesel trim is offered with a four-wheel drive setup.
The Scorpio car has been widely regarded as a reliable and capable SUV, gaining a loyal customer base in India. Its combination of ruggedness, performance, and affordability has contributed to its success in the competitive SUV segment. However, the new Scorpio surpasses its predecessor in various aspects, making it a superior choice for those seeking an upgraded driving experience.
